Background

Viewing disasters as a fundamental threat to development, UNDP China strives to promote a more resilient form of development by strengthening national and local capacities towards disaster risk management and mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development planning and practices. Working closely with the Government of China, UNDP China is also committed to building global partnerships as it seeks to combat the complex economic, social and human security dimensions posed by disasters.

To facilitate Disaster Management Team as well as international and national stakeholders in summarizing programme experience and lessons learnt; to enhance knowledge building, communication and dissemination; and to explore possible future solutions for sounder disaster/crisis management in China as next steps, UNDP Disaster Management Team plans to recruit an intern to participate in the work of programme.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supporting formulation of pipelines in disaster management area, including but not limited to key research support, literature review, and formulation of concept note and project document.
  2. Assisting in on-going projects, supporting work of Project Manager and Project Officers, including coordination, communication, data collection, finance, etc.
  3. Admin support include translation and interpretation, taking meeting minutes, conference booking, workshops preparation, etc.
  4. Supporting coordination and communication with stakeholders, preparing webpage update or regular Disaster Management Updates and other communication materials.
  5. Providing other support upon instructions from Project Manager and Project Officer.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Enrolled in a Master-level Degree programme or above. Degree in development-related field such as international relations, development studies, sociology, disaster management, political sciences or environmental studies is desirable
  2. Fluency in both English and Chinese, particularly reading and writing
  3. Ability to hold this position for a full time 6 months duration is required
  4. Experience in the usage of computers and Microsoft Office packages, skills with PhotoShop or other design/video software would be an advantage
  5. Sound understanding of disaster related issues with relevant experiences will be an asset
