Background

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide by advocating for volunteerism, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.

The UNV Regional Office for Arab States, Europe and CIS provides oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in the region and is accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development and humanitarian needs. Furthermore, the UNV Regional Office represents and strategically positions UNV and bring UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners from governments, UN entities, civil society and private sector.

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic intern who will support UNV Regional Office for Arab States, Europe and CIS in its advocacy and outreach efforts, as well as development and maintenance of its social media presence for the Arab States. In addition, the intern will be tasked with supporting Regional Portfolio Manager for the Arab States in data collection, research and analysis related to mobilization of UN Volunteers in Field Units assigned to Regional Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the organisation of key events and communication opportunities, such as conferences, discussions, webinars and workshops;
  • Contribute to drafting of various communication materials, including website stories, information packages, press releases, social media posts/tweets, etc.;
  • Support research, creation and uploading of content on social media channels;
  • Assist with tasks related to graphic design and print production, such as layout of publications,
  • Assist in production of slide show presentations using PowerPoint and/or Prezi;

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

  • have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) in a degree programme in a relevant discipline (digital marketing, web management, graphic design, social media, communication) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation

Experience:

  • Experience in content creation and digital communications is required;

  • Experience with digital communications, marketing and outreach activities;

  • Experience with video and photo editing and design software;

  • Experience with social media management and graphic design.

Language:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
