Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for UNDP’s external relations and advocacy functions. The Bureau leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. These relationships encompass a wide range and number of key constituencies and development partners, that includes Programme countries, existing and prospective donor countries/emerging economic powers, multilateral institutions such as the IFIs, the European Commission, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, various UN intergovernmental bodies, as well as global, regional and national media.

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy comprises the Directorate, including a Strategy and Innovation Unit, and the following groups: Communications; Resource Partnerships and UN System Affairs. In addition, BERA has Representation Offices in five major donor cities: Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington.

Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. The Digital and Online team is responsible for developing and maintaining UNDP’s digital properties including website, blogs and social media.

Project Description 

The Digital Communications team works closely with the other teams in the Communications group to ensure that the tone and visual representation of UNDP branded products are consistent. Reporting to the Website Specialist ( French) the Intern will support the team conceptualizing and creating web and social media visual assets for campaigns, events and other promotional purposes ( French ).

Duties and Responsibilities

The interested candidate will:

  • Curate, maintain and monitor UNDP’s French social media platforms @pnudfr (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Ensure global social media campaigns follow up and support
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements for audience engagement on @pnudfr.
  • Produce graphic and multimedia material.
  • Assist in curating and producing Web stories, using UNDP’s web content management system (Adobe Experience Manager).
  • Review and edit translations of web stories, headlines, scripts and captions in French, liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages.
  • Assist in translating texts from English into French, proofreading and reformulating if necessary, for optimal web presentation.
  • Assist in maintaining contacts with French-speaking content providers to solicit and/or submit content

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications :

 Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrollment in a graduate degree programme in a development or communications-related field, such as journalism, interactive telecommunications, international relations, political science, anthropology, sociology, public or business administration;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French (fluent English desirable)
  • Must be available at least three days a week;
  • Web and social media experience an asset.

  • Any individual hired under these conditions are not staff and therefore, are not covered by UN Staff Regulations and Rules
  • UNDP internship Programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity
  • The internship period shall not be foreshortened for the purposes of allowing an intern to apply for a position
