Background

In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the unconventional and up-to-date idea, innovative thinking, and also collaboration is required to help solving the challenge faces in society today.

 

Young people are persons with new bold perspective, new talents, and new abilities which can play the key role as active drivers of change in communities to shape the better society by 2030.

 

Youth Co:Lab Thailand is an initiative under Thailand Social Innovation Platform, supported by the United Nation Development Program and Citi Foundation which aims to strengthen the capacities of young people to design and implement ideas and business models for social impact in their communities, and to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs through cross sector collaboration for social innovation

 

The project is committed to empower youth all around Thailand to create livelihood through social innovation and building the foundation of ecosystem that connects them and leaders in the fields of technology, development, innovation and business together to advocate the sustainable development for tomorrow

 

Youth Co:Lab Thailand 2019 will be a 4-day long event which takes place in September 2019 with the theme of “Embracing Diversity” for peacebuilding and preventing violent extremism. We expect around 60 young people at the age of 18-29 and 60 partners including youth representatives, United Nations Agencies, Thai Government representatives, private sectors, CSOs, academics to participate in the program.

 

The main component of the program includes

i)             an inspirational talk, discussion and insight sharing from social entrepreneurs on current stage of social innovation in Thailand to enhance more collaboration on the ecosystem

ii)            Capacity building workshop for young participants specially tailored based on their needs.

iii)           Social Innovation Challenge, the stage where participants will pitch their ideas to experts, investors, and other stakeholders to find partnership and collaboration for accelerating and implementing their solution with strong impact.

 

With these components mentioned above, Thailand Social Innovation Platform seek to strengthen the social innovation ecosystem in Thailand in order to support the achievement of the SDGs

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of work:

 

The consultant is responsible for planning with Thailand Social Innovation Platform team in the planning of Youth Co:Lab’s media strategy and implementation with details as follow:

1. Key Visual Design and its application

1.1) Understand the objective, theme and goal of Youth Co:Lab 2019

1.2) Design key visual of Youth Co:Lab 2019

1.3) Design below artworks following the designed key visual;

  • Backdrop
  • X stand
  • Certificate
  • Name badge
  • Award signs
  • Slide presentations

1.4) Design projects solution catalogue

1.5) Full usage rights for font (if necessary)

 

2. Videography and Photography

Consultants is required to attended Youth Co:Lab Thailand 2019 during September and will be    responsible for the follow duties:

2.1) Videography

  • Produce 1 motion graphic video with voiceover in Thai explaining “ embracing diversity” with English subtitle. (approx. 1 minutes in length)
  •  Records and produce 1 video of approx. 5 minutes in length in Thai to document activities and interviews key stakeholders per request of Thailand Social Innovation Platform team with English Subtitles, (or Thai subtitle if the interviewee speaks English)
  • Full usage rights for music (or music for which copyright has been granted)
  • Submit all first drafted videos to Thailand Social Innovation Team for review and approval.
  • Final version of videos with music and graphic as needed
  • Export final version of a video in formats optimized for HD web distribution and adaptive to social media specifications.

2.2) Photography

  • Photograph participants and event activities, as follows: horizontal and vertical photos; close-up, participants in action, participants engaging in activities of the team consultation.
  • Photograph must be provided in both low and high quality suitable for printing,
  • processing or publishing on website (high resolution jpeg or raw files 30ppi at
  • 2610x3900 pixels minimum, and low-resolution jpeg file 72ppi at 1200x800 minimum.

 

Consultants takes full responsibility for the technical part of the video and photo production including planning, script development, shooting, and conduction of interviews, and sourcing of music to accompany the video.

 

The consultant shall warrant the complete intellectual ownership by UNDP of all the materials, products and all the elements of the finished materials.

 3. Articles and Social Media Post

3.1) Plan with TSIP team and create articles related to Youth Co:Lab 2019 events and  theme of “Embracing Diversity” with the minimum of 9 articles in English and Thai

3.2) Create social media post and create artwork of calling for proposal, pre-event, during event, and post- event in English and Thai with the minimum of 24 Facebook posts.

 

 

Expected Outputs and Deliverables:

 

1. Key visual design in .ai or .psd file with separated layers

2. Design of the following elements in both ready-for-production file and .ai file with, if necessary, font embedded

 

  • backdrop
  • xstand
  • certificate
  • name badge
  • award sign
  • slide presentation

3. Layout design of project catalogue ready to be published online.

4. High- and low-resolution photographs, edited: provide at least 500 selected images from the event to UNDP on external memory, medium, or via file transfer service.

5. One motion graphic video of 1 minute in length explaining violent extremism and peacebuilding with voiceover and English subtitles.

6. One fully-produce video of approx. 3-5 minutes in length video in 1080p (HD) resolution of Youth Co:Lab  2019 displaying key stakeholder’s interview and activities with English/Thai subtitles.

7. At least 9 articles related to Youth Co:Lab 2019

8. At least 24 Facebook posts of pre-event, during event, and post-event related to Youth Co:Lab 2019

 

 

Institutional Arrangement:

 

National Consultant – Youth Co:Lab Thailand Media will work under the guidance of Project Manager of Thailand Social Innovation Platform, UNDP Thailand and report directly to the Team Leader, Democratic Governance and Social Advocacy Unit.  The consultant will also work closely with the Thailand Social Innovation Platform team who will review the progress and quality of assignment upon outputs prior to issuance the payment.  Review/approval time required to review/ approve outputs prior to authorizing payments is 7 – 10 days.

 

 

Duration of the Assignment:

 

25 July 2019 - 31 January 2020 (Maximum 70 Working Days)

 

Duty Station:

 

Home Based with expected travel within Thailand

 

A consultant may be required to travel to project sites or attend the events relevant to the project within Thailand. Travels will be authorized by Programme Specialist/Team Leader, Democratic Governance and Social Advocacy when required. Travel expenses (ticket, living allowance and local transport) shall be agreed prior travel and reimbursed after trips completed.

Required Skills and Experience

I. Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or above in communication and design studies, innovation studies, development studies.

 

II. Years of experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in communication and media.
  • Experience in communication design for social, design education, community development or social innovation projects
  • Demonstrated experience in communication and identity design or innovation process workshops.

 

III. Language:

  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written

 

IV. Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong sensibility of design skills;
  • String Motivation to create change;
  • Strong understanding of Thai culture and ways of communication.

In general, UNDP shall not accept travel costs exceeding those of an economy class ticket. Should the IC wish to travel on a higher class he/she should do so using their own resources

In the event of unforeseeable travel not anticipated in this TOR, payment of travel costs including tickets, lodging and terminal expenses should be agreed upon, between the respective business unit and the Individual Consultant, prior to travel and will be reimbursed.

Travel costs shall be reimbursed at actual but not exceeding the quotation from UNDP approved travel agent.

 

 

Criteria for Selection of the Best Offer:

 

An Individual consultant will be evaluated based on the following methodology…

 

Cumulative analysis

The award of the contract shall be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as a) responsive/compliant/acceptable; and b) having received the highest score out of set of weighted technical criteria (70%). and financial criteria (30%). Financial score shall be computed as a ratio of the proposal being evaluated and the lowest priced proposal received by UNDP for the assignment. Technical Criteria for Evaluation (Maximum 70 points)

  • Criteria 1 Eg. Relevance of Education – Max10 points
  • Criteria 2 Eg. Special skills, Language, etc.- Max20 Points
  • Criteria 3 Eg. Relevance of experience in area of communication and art direction)– Max40 points

 

Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% of the total technical points would be considered for the Financial Evaluation.

 

 

Documents to be included when submitting the proposals:

 

Interested individuals must submit the following documents /information to demonstrate their qualification, experience and suitability to undertake the assignment.

 

  1. Personal CV, indicating all past experience from similar projects, as well as the contact details email and telephone number of the Candidate and at least three (3) professional references;
  2. Letter of Confirmation of Interest and Availability and Financial Proposal indicating professional and service fee. Note: National consultants must quote prices in Thai Baht.If an Offeror is employed by an organization/company/institution, and he/she expects his/her employer to charge a management fee in the process of releasing him/her to UNDP under Reimbursable Loan Agreement (RLA), the Offeror must indicate at this point, and ensure that all such costs are duly incorporated in the financial proposal submitted to UNDP.

 

Incomplete proposals may not be considered. The shortlisted candidates may be contacted and the successful candidate will be notified
