Background

The position is in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Cairo, Egypt and reports to the RCO Team Leader.

The SDG Action Campaign is a global initiative that aims to raise awareness and enhance knowledge of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda (2030 Agenda) and to encourage all stakeholders to act on supporting the advancement of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. In Egypt, an SDG Advocacy Programme has been established since late 2018 by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO). This Programme consists of 60 university students and graduates that are activated on raising awareness and calling for positive action on supporting the achievement of the SDGs in Egypt.

The main purpose of this assignment is to support the management of the SDG Advocacy Programme and expand its outreach. In addition, support to the UN Communication Group (UNCG) will be provided to ensure a coherence of communications and advocacy around the UN’s partnership with Egypt in the context of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Support the implementation of the SDG Action Campaign in Egypt

    1. Maintain the SDG Advocacy Programme’s Facebook page and engage with the programme’s Advocates on social media;

    2. Support the Advocates’ SDG action plans and follow up on their commitments;

    3. Coordinate all necessary preparations required for the SDG Advocates participation at SDG related events;

    4. Prepare relevant SDG awareness tools and ensure their distribution through booths, print-outs etc;

    5. Develop partnerships with various stakeholders to support the expansion of the SDG Action Campaign in Egypt.

  2. Support the UN Communication Group (UNCG) on UN Egypt communications and advocacy

    1. Manage the update of the new UN Egypt website (this includes data collection and entry, content creation and translation);

    2. Support to the organization and implementation of UNCG events and initiatives;

    3. Support the collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination of information on progress of UN interventions in Egypt.

Carry out any other relevant duties assigned by the UNRCO as may be deemed necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Applicants to internships at the UNRCO must at the time of application meet one of the following academic requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

    • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

  • First level university degree in Mass Communications, Social Sciences or other relevant field;

  • 1-2 year(s) of previous experience in communications (voluntary and/or professional) is considered an asset;
