Background

UNODC is currently implementing a global project to address challenges related human trafficking. In South Asia, this project is being implemented in India and Sri Lanka. This project will assess the current situation of trafficking in Sri Lanka, deliver technical support to the key stakeholders to increase their ability to identify, investigate, prosecute and adjudicate trafficking in persons and to protect and support victims and witnesses, and share the good practices being implemented in the region through the UNODC TIP-platform.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Intern will support the work of the Sri Lanka Country Office, and work under the direct supervision of the National Program Officer based in Sri Lanka in close consultation with project teams. The specific tasks are outlined below:

  • Support the coordination of the project activities implemented by Sri Lanka country office.  
  • Facilitate the coordination of projects including organising meetings, workshops, and the recruitment of consultants.
  • Coordinate and liaise with government officers, international and non-governmental organizations, and other relevant institutions to implement activities related to the Project Office.
  • Capture success stories and lessons learned for reporting purposes.
  • Support the project team with administrative duties, including taking minutes and writing concept notes.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNODC internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or
  • equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills in English;

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages;

Experience working in cross-cultural environments an asset;

Good inter-personal skills.

A person who is the child or sibling of an UNDP/ UNODC  staff member shall not be eligible to apply for an internship at UNDP/UNODC. An applicant who bears any other family relationship with a UNDP/UNODC staff member may be engaged as an intern, provided that he or she shall not be assigned to the same work unit of the staff member nor placed under the direct or indirect supervision of the staff member.
