Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Ending Violence against Women (EVAW) programme focuses on prevention and response to violence against women; strengthening the legal framework, ensuring coordination among key stakeholders working on EVAW and preventing and reducing child marriage.

As part of the EVAW programme portfolio, the Combating Gender Based Violence in Bangladesh (CGBV) project started in 2018 to boost efforts on preventing violence. The Project recognizes that prevention of violence requires sustained and comprehensive action at individual, family, organizational and societal levels. Through the Project, UN Women will partner with key educational, government and workplace institutions to prevent and respond to Violence against Women. Along with that, UN Women will engage their implementing partners to capacity building of the community leaders so that they can continuation of creating awareness and commitment to prevent violence against women, with a specific focus on sexual harassment.

As part of this work, UN Women is seeking a national interpreter to provide translation service from English to Bangla
on the proposed training modules and facilitator guidance book that will be used by the trainers to facilitate the training sessions in the family, community, workplace, and educational institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Programme Analyst, EVAW, the translator will provide professional translation service (from English to Bangla) to translate the training modules – - SASA!Together package, Stepping Stones package, HER respect package, and UNiTE changemakers toolkit and facilitators’ guidebook and revision of translated documents.  
Scope of Work:

  • Translate from English original to Bangla of the training modules - SASA!Together package, Stepping Stones package, HER respect package, and UNiTE changemakers toolkit and facilitators’ guidebook;
  • After the agreement share the action plan and work modality;
  • Provide a periodic translation on other documents that need translation related to training as per below schedule;
  • The translator needs to accommodate feedback of UN Women technical team of CGBV and then share the final version.

 Duration of Assignment:
The dates required for this assignment are from December 2019 to April 2020.
The suggested working days: 75 working days spread across a period of five months.

Supervision and performance evaluation:
Translator will be in direct contact with UN Women Programme Analyst, EVAW. She/he will work under the supervision of the UN Women contract administrator (Programme Analyst, EVAW) and will be ultimately responsible to the UN Women Bangladesh.

2.2.    Steppingstone: IGA and Teen-08 days;
2.3.    HERrespect: Curriculum for Male workers-06 days;
Total days to complete Deliverable 2: 28 days;
Deliverable 3:
3.1. SASA! Together: Action phase - 07 days;
3.2. HERrespect: Curriculum for Joint sessions-05 days;
Total days to complete Deliverable 3: 12 days
Allocated days for Consultation, revision of drafts and finalization-05 days.
Total Number of days to be recruited-75 days

Translation service (from English to Bangla) is provided December 2019 to April 2020.
The payment will be paid after the successful completion of assigned tasks approved by UN Women Programme Analyst, EVAW.

Respective deliverables and documents will be reviewed by UN Women before processing the payments. Payments will be disbursed according to the payment schedule.

2.2.    Steppingstone: IGA and Teen;       
2.3.    HERrespect: Curriculum for Male workers .  

 Deliverable 3 by February 2020        
3.1. SASA! Together: Action phase;        
3.2. HERrespect: Curriculum for Joint sessions;       
Revision of drafts, finalization of the final modules by March 2020;   
Submission report with completion of assignment    by April 2020 .  

Payment:50 % of the total contract amount shall be paid upon submission of deliverable 02 and 03 All completed, accommodating all feedback of technical team of CGBV project team UNWOMEN. After acceptance of set of translated documents (English to Bangla)  the final payment will be processed.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Minimum University degree in Bangla, English or any other social science related field.

Experiences:

  • A minimum of two years of experience translation from English to Bangla and vice versa;
  • Good understanding of gender, social and development issues;
  • Experience in documentation, interpretation and rapporteur.

Languag

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and ability to writing report is required.
