Background

The SDG Innovative Enterprises Challenge is a joint initiative by the Government of Eswatini, private sector and civil society, with technical and financial support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The initiative supports young action leaders creating meaningful progress towards achieving the SDGs through sustainable and smart business solutions. The project provides a platform for the development of innovative solutions to address development challenges faced by the country as well as the implementation of SDGs. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (MICT) through the Royal Science and Technology Park. The Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) is a public enterprise (PE) established in terms of the Royal Science and Technology Park Act No. 5 of 2012. The Business Incubator of the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP) nurtures innovative start-ups so that they survive and grow through the difficult and vulnerable early stages of development and become bankable projects. Business incubation contributes to the removal of barriers to entrepreneurship, innovation and market access. 

Objectives of the Assignment

The Royal Science and Technology Park invites prospective trainers to provide the following services:

  • Development of Training content on identifying the right employees and partners, resolving conflicts and compliance with labor laws.
  • Delivery of an interactive training workshop on identifying the right employees and partners, resolving conflicts and compliance with labour laws.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Training method
  • The training method should combine power point presentations, case studies and exercises. It should be delivered face-to-face to the participants. A flip board will also be provided.
  • The Trainer must engage participants in actual delivery of sections of the training.
  • The Trainer must provide examples or known cases to ensure that participants grasp the content.
  • The training material should be in English. It should not be in ‘MBA’ jargon but not so simplistic to lose application in the real world of business.
  • The Trainer will be responsible for developing and delivering all the training content.

  2.  Training content

  • The Trainer shall develop training content. The Trainer will submit all the training content including PowerPoint slides, and case study information. It is mandatory for the Trainer to deliver the content because all the material will be evaluated and printed before the training workshop.

3. Training Workshops

  • The Trainer will deliver a training workshop on identifying the right employees and partners, resolving conflicts and compliance with lab our laws for three days. The workshop will start at 8:30 am and end at 16:30 pm in each day. The trainer will deliver the training to 60 participants. The participants either have ideas or are starting businesses that deal in waste management, renewable energy, climate change related solutions and other areas of the sustainable development goals. The training content should cover of the following topics. Omissions or inadequate explanation will not be tolerated and will affect the amount to be paid for the services.

Part 1: HR Management and statutory requirements, HR systems, policies and procedures

  • The statutory requirements and legislative framework regarding the employment and management of people in organizations in Eswatini.
  • HR systems, policies and procedures.

Part 2: Recruitment, selection, assessment and on-boarding

  • Creating a recruitment and selection process
  • Developing an on-boarding program for new recruits
  • Establishing an attractive employer value proposition

Part 3: Performance management

  • The purpose of performance management
  • The performance management process
  • Guidelines on performance management sessions

Part 4: Conflict resolution

  • An Introduction to Conflict Resolution
  • Types of conflict in the work place
  • How to manage conflict effectively
  • Legislated procedures for the resolution of workplace disputes

Part 5: Rewarding, incentivizing, and retaining employees

  • Various approaches and programs to incentivize, reward and retain employees
  • Talent management process
  •  Effective retention strategies to attract and retain employees

 

Competencies

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Substantive knowledge and experience in the entrepreneurial space both locally and internationally;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the human resource management field;
  • Knowledge of the general development problems facing Eswatini;
  • Ability to apply principles of adult learning to training development and delivery;
  • Awareness and sensitivity in working with people of various cultural and social backgrounds;                                                 

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • A minimum of a university Bachelor's degree in human resource management, law, or related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum two years experience in training adults in the related field.
  • Outline of similar or related training content delivered to adults that have business ideas or are running businesses
  • Experience in being a lead trainer in a training workshop.

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and SiSwati.
