Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women’s China Office in Beijing supports and carries out work on (i) enhancing women's economic empowerment (WEE); (ii) ending violence against women (EVAW); and (iii) China Gender Fund(CGF) (Vi) Gender&Climate Change ( GCC). In addition to the above, UN Women also actively participates and contributes to various UN inter-agency processes and collaborates with UN organizations around specific programme areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

As the EVAW Intern supporting the Ending Violence against Women (EVAW) team, the intern will provide support to the EVAW Coordinator and the Youth Project Officer on coordination, implementation and monitoring of projects, campaigns and activities on ending violence against women and other forms of gender-based discrimination and violence, administrative work and do translations when needed. Among others, the essential duties and tasks will be:

  • Assisting in fostering social norm change among youths to prevent gender-based violence;
  • Assisting in research on gender-based discrimination and violence;
  • Assisting in translation and proof-reading of documents;
  • Assisting in UN inter-agency coordination on EVAW;
  • Assisting in administrative work of the EVAW team, including assisting in arranging meetings, receiving visitors, taking minutes, collecting procurement quotations, placing and screening telephone calls, and responding to external requests for information;
  • Helping organize events on ending violence against women;
  • Assisting in filing and maintaining documents for the EVAW team;
  • Writing speeches and preparing PowerPoint presentations;
  • Provide support to UN Women China public campaigns and events

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Gender, English, International Development other relevant subjects is required.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship. Application Information:
