Background: 
The UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects.  

Objective of the internship: 
Provide support to the Resident Coordinator Office with regard to communications functions. 

Organizational Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Resident Coordinator and the Team Leader, the intern will be hosted at the Resident Coordinator Office and he/she will carry out tasks related to communication in order to contribute to the clear, coherent and consistent UN communication of activities of the UN’s work, specifically of the RCO and UNCT initiatives. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops graphic materials on the work of UN in Angola: as UNCT pamphlet, UN Angola brochure;
  • Assists in drafting and editing articles, press release, other public information materials and reports; 
  • Supports the UN Website and Facebook, elaborating content in Portuguese and editing relevant information and uploads it to the web; 
  • Assists in translating content from English to Portuguese;
  • Supports the functioning of the UN Communication Group in consultation with the RC & the UN Country Team; and under the guidance in the implementation of the guidelines. 
  • Supports the preparation of UN System public events, such as UN Days, press conferences, missions, launching ceremonies, field visits, workshops, and global UN initiatives; 
  • Monitors the media keeping a good overall knowledge of the public debate around themes relevant to UN mandate and programs; 
  • Undertakes any other related duties as assigned.

Impact of Results:

  • The key results have an impact on projecting the image and the activities of UN System in Angola and of the RC to the public by demonstrating the impact of UN´s development results through active and accurate information dissemination.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in Communication, Journalism or related social sciences;

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication, Journalism or related social sciences;

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in Communication, Journalism or related social sciences. and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:  

  • No experience required.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Portuguese and good working knowledge of English is required.

Conditions of internship:

  • UNDP internship programme provide a monthly stipend when the intern is not supported by any institution or programme.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. 
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
