The Lion’s Share initiative is an innovative wildlife conservation and animal welfare fund initiated by the private sector and UNDP. The Initiative is to be capitalized by funds collected from advertisers when images or footage of animals are used in advertisements. In joining the Lion’s Share, an advertiser commits to donate 0.5% of the media spend on their advertisements that feature animals. The funds will be collected by The Lion’s Share Fund and then disbursed globally to have the maximum impact on animal conservation, biodiversity and animal welfare, and help advance the Sustainable Development Goals. The Lion’s Share initiative was announced at the Cannes Lion’s International Festival of Creativity in June 2018. The Lion’s Share was launched at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City during the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2018.
As a result of the successful leadership and the dedication of the French Government in building private sector coalitions for biodiversity, The Lion’s Share launched the first country-focused outreach strategy for France in February of 2019. The country strategy provided a tailored national approach targeting leading French brands and advertising platforms. This initial strategy was successful in signing several companies to The Lion’s Share, garnering support from the French Government, and securing spotlight at key events.
The France Outreach Strategy is now updated for 2020 and ready to re-launch. This revamped strategy moves forward with an expanded France-based outreach team, new targets, and an updated approach given past lessons learned. The outreach team is now equipped with a fully detailed and approved 5-year conservation investment plan, designed in partnership with the world’s leading wildlife experts and organizations.
Through a coordinated outreach effort by multiple stakeholders, the shared objective will be to secure a collection of French companies for commitment during pivotal moments at high-level events in France in June of 2020. These high-level stage moments will bring together UNDP, governmental entities, and leading French private sector companies to showcase how an innovative financial mechanism can successfully drive nature-based solutions to result in major impact for the natural world.
UNPD is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable consultant to support the development and implementation of the tailored strategic outreach plan for France, to drive French private sector engagement in The Lion’s Share initiative.

Scope of Work
The Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Portfolio Manager of the MPTF Office and in coordination with the Lion’s Share France Outreach Strategy team and Lion’s Share Secretariat. The key tasks for the private sector consultant will include:
Expected Outputs and Deliverables
The consultant is expected to achieve the following outputs:
- Provide input to France Outreach Strategy, France-based planning and marketing, outreach efforts, as well as identification of target companies in France;
- Develop and refine France Outreach Communication Kits;
- Determine key PR moments and needs, organize PR
- Lead the organization of France-based outreach events, meetings and teleconferences, in coordination with Lion’s Share partners;
- Provide input to drafted B2C / B2B campaign creatives;
- Provide substantial support for the implementation of the France Outreach Strategy;
- Conduct targeted, pro-active outreach to selected private sector companies to expand The Lion’s Share partnership base in France;
- Request outreach support by identified influencers where needed;
- Develop, build and maintain relationships with current and prospective partners by prospecting, cultivating, cold calling, client meetings, continual follow-up in person or by phone or device, under the supervision of the Lion’s Share Secretariat and Fund Trustee;
- Arrange meetings with key Private Sector companies at CEO / C-suite level;
- Coordination and support of Lion’s Share partners to propel media engagement;
- Organize meetings and calls with journalists, brief on Fund updates according to developed talking points;
- Recommendations for campaign optimization to improve fundraising performance;
- Monthly reports outlining progress to date that can be shared with outreach partners.

Qualifications et expériences requises
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 10 years of mid-level engagement with private sector companies in an influential marketing or communications capacity; is required
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and minimum 5 years of experience working with companies in advertising and strategic planning, including in the French market; is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of social business / Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach to development; desired
- Demonstrated experience in negotiating and influencing others, especially at the C-suite level, to reach agreement; desired
- A strong sense of client orientation and a strong drive for results; required
Language:
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in French and English, required.
Institutional Arrangement
- The Consultant will work home-based, under the overall guidance of the Fund Trustee.
Duration of work: The period 5 months, March 2nd 2020 – 30th July 2020 (maximum of 85 working days)
Education
- Master’s degree in public policy, development studies, political science, international relations, or related field;
Payment modality
- Payments are based upon output and based on actual number of days worked, i.e. upon delivery of the services specified above and deliverables accepted and upon certification of satisfactory completion by the manager.

Evaluation
- Individual consultants will be evaluated using the Cumulative Analysis methodology.
- When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:
- Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation;
Technical Criteria (100 points):
Candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% (490 points) of the maximum obtainable points for the technical criteria (700 points) shall be considered for the financial evaluation.

- Demonstrated in depth understanding of and experience in marketing 40%
- Experience of working with French companies and Corporate Social Responsibility; (30%)
- Demonstrated understanding of the scope and strategy of this assignment; (20%)

Financial evaluation - Total 30% (300 points)
- The following formula will be used to evaluate financial proposal:
- p = y (µ/z), where
- p = points for the financial proposal being evaluated
- y = maximum number of points for the financial proposal
- µ = price of the lowest priced proposal
