Background |

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, and in line with the ongoing UN Reform, UN Women leads and coordinates the United Nations system efforts in Uganda to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Uganda’s priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. The Government with support from UN developed a National SDG Roadmap (launched October 2018), which outlines key actions and sets timelines for the mainstreaming, implementation and reporting of the Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals in Uganda. The SDG Roadmap covers among other elements awareness-raising; multi-stakeholder consultations and dialogue; tailoring the SDGs to the local context; creating horizontal and vertical policy coherence; budgeting for the future; and monitoring, reporting and accountability. The principal objective of this role is to support the National SDG Secretariat in its functions, including operationalization the National SDG Coordination Framework; promoting the mainstreaming and implementation of the Agenda 2030 in Uganda; and ensuring that all the gender aspects in reporting are included. This assignment has a strong focus on the implementation of the SDG Roadmap process, stakeholder engagement and reporting. Under the guidance of the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, the candidate will provide substantive support to the planning, monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and Knowledge Management functions of the UN Women Uganda Country Office while executing functions at the SDG Secretariat.
