Background

The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) serves as a focal point in advocating, promoting and coordinating support to South-South and triangular cooperation (SSC and TrC) at the global and UN system level.

Under the strategic framework (2018-2021), UNOSSC focuses its work, on three strategic outcomes targeting:

  • (a) the advancement of policy choices for South-South and triangular cooperation and coordinated United Nations system support to such cooperation;
  • (b)capacity development through the sharing of knowledge and experiences; and
  • (c) the forging of strategic South-South and triangular partnerships to support demand-driven programmes.

Among its various functions, UNOSSC acts as Fund Manager and provides support to implementation across four South-South cooperation trust funds, namely the UN Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation, the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation (PGTF), the India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Fund, and the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.

UNOSSC has started to improve internal digital transformation process to enhance the quality, relevance, efficiency, and impact of its works through efficient business process, better knowledge sharing and improved data usage.

Within this context, under the overall supervision of the Result Management Specialist, the Digital Transformation Intern will closely work with the ICT Associate on day-to-day technical aspects. The Intern will also collaborate with UNPD ICT Team and UNOSSC Programme Teams.

The role of the candidate will contribute in improving the existing SharePoint products and creating new products closely working with different teams and business units. Additionally, the candidate will also work with the teams to identify new business processes where the O365 platform can be leveraged for continuous process improvement.  

This candidate requires strategic thinking with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected intern will support/contribute to:

  • Regularly assess needs and update work plan for internal digital transformation process.
  • Develop MS SharePoint page design, configuration, workflows, administration, migration, and automated deployment processes.
  • In collaboration with business owners, end-users, create/update SharePoint sites, lists, libraries, pages, apps, custom forms and workflows.

  • Design and develop custom web parts and workflow automations as needed to support UNOSSC SharePoint environment.

  • Implementation of SharePoint-based workflows as well as development of Business Intelligence dashboards.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of tasks related to the evaluation of new O365 platform (Flow, PowerApps, Power BI and SharePoint Online) based initiatives.

  • Create and maintain documentation for developed solutions.

  • Provide training on the use of SharePoint applications.

  • Knowledge management and dissemination efforts using digital media.

  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor

Required Skills and Experience

 

Education:

  • Qualified/suitable intern from the field of Computer Science or Computer Information Systems or related discipline.

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher);

  2. Have recently graduated with a University degree, and if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

  3. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program;

Experience:

  • Very good knowledge of SharePoint and associated Microsoft technologies is required (Power Apps, Power BI, Work-Flow, etc).

  • Experience on SharePoint application support in the analysis, design, InfoPath, Web Parts, and workflow creation.

  • Very good understanding on application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – distinct advantage.

 

Language:

  • Proficiency in English - written and spoken.

Conditions

  • Internships may be given a stipend per month in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy, which applicants should become familiar with prior to signing an  UN Internship Agreement Form .The intern will only be paid a stipend, if they are physically present in the workplace or office. Since this is a home-based internship, the intern selected for this particular internship will not receive a stipend.

  • During the internship period interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.

  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions.

  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment within the UN System, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

  • Please note this internship assignment is available on a part-time or full-time basis.
