Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Building on twenty years of experience in the area of women, peace and security (WPS) and governance, including conflict prevention and resolution, peacebuilding, security sector reform and access to justice, UN Women Asia and the Pacific Regional Office implements several projects in the areas of WPS and governance. These include projects on Preventing Violent Extremism, Women in Law Enforcement, Women and Cyber Security and Access to Justice.

UN Women seeks to engage a copy editor through a retainer contract to edit research, communications materials, briefs, reports and other documents and materials that reflect high quality, result-based standard and format established by UN Women.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant is responsible for the following:

  • Copy editing, revising and rewriting as needed and formatting to produce high quality, reader-friendly, accessible, timely, results-based donor, programme and corporate communications materials; research and policy reports and briefs; and other documents and materials aligned with UN Women's established standards and formats, and in compliance with the RO's clearance process.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Copy edited research, communications materials, briefs, reports and other documents and materials that reflect high quality, result-based standard and format established by UN Women.

 

Duration of Assignment

 

From 2 November 2020 – 1 November 2021 (Maximum 100 days of assignment period; UN Women does not warrant that the maximum of 100 days. The service will be purchased during the term of the Agreement). The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, which facilitates direct engagement of the consultant depending on need and availability within the contract period for a previously agreed upon fee.

Required Skills and Experience

Required qualification: 

  • Master's degree or other advanced degree in social sciences, international development, and/or communications, with at least 5 years of work experience; OR bachelor’s degree in those fields with at least 7 years of work experience.
  • Work experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats and styles.
  • A demonstrated ability to write and copy edit high quality English-language reports and information within the guidelines of the United Nations Editorial Manual and using the United Nations spelling.
  • Understanding of international development, resource mobilization, and the UN context is an asset. Work experience with UN Agencies or development organizations is an asset.
  • Must be capable of effectively using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in English writing skill.

 

II.Evaluation

 

Applications will be evaluated based on the cumulative analysis.

  • Technical Qualification (100 points) weight; [70%]
  • Financial Proposal (100 points) weight; [30%]

 

A two-stage procedure is utilised in evaluating the applications, with evaluation of the technical application being completed prior to any price proposal being compared. Only the price proposal of the candidates who passed the minimum technical score of 70% of the obtainable score of 100 points in the technical qualification evaluation will be evaluated.

  • Only the financial proposal of candidates who have attained a minimum of 70% score in the technical evaluation will be considered and evaluated.
  • The total number of points allocated for the price component is 100.
  • The maximum number of points will be allotted to the lowest price proposal that is opened/ evaluated and compared among those technical qualified candidates who have attained a minimum of 70% score in the technical evaluation. All other price proposals will receive points in inverse proportion to the lowest price.
