Drawing on the diversity of UNDP’s client needs and partnerships, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the hub for the global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy, policy setting, guidance, and oversight. In alignment with the People for 2030 and People Development 2020 Strategy, the Talent Development Unit (TDU) at OHR is committed to provide improved opportunities for, and better targeting of, learning and development initiatives so that UNDP staff can reach their full potential and increase organizational capability and effectiveness. 

Under the supervision of TDU’s Career Development & Employee Experience Team, the intern will contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of career development programmes at UNDP personnel.

In this regard, TDU is seeking a home-based Talent Development interns in Africa, Asia, Central Europe/Middle East, and Latin America respectively to support the People for 2030 and People Development 2020 Strategy, as well as country offices for career development.

Stipend

• The Intern will receive a monthly stipend. The amount will vary depending on their duty city / country.
• The amount can also vary depending if a selected candidate receives financial support from a nominating institution, related institution or government.

Training Components and Learning Elements

As a member of the TDU team, the intern will:

• Learn the structure, mechanisms, policies, and practice areas of UNDP.
• Learn about online learning and career development initiatives.
• Participate in dedicated trainings and UNDP online learning tools.
• Strengthen his/her effective writing and visual communication skills.
• Participate in working groups.

Starting Date of the Internship

With consideration for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its implications on working arrangements, the selected candidate will be expected to start his/her internship between March 8th and March 15th, 2021.

Communication

• Assist in answering day-to-day queries from programme participants.
• Develop and update communication materials for career development programmes.
• Create graphics for team presentations, social media outreach or project, as well as videos that can be used for internal and external communication and/or learning purposes.
• Edit TDU’s internal Career Development website and update information regarding upcoming learning events.

Programme Design and Administration

• Assist in the creation of presentations in PowerPoint.
• Assist in the creation and delivery of webinars (“Virtual Career Labs”) using technology e.g. Zoom / Go-to-Webinar.
• Support the creation of Podcasts on career journeys at UNDP (recording interviews, editing content….)
• Assist in updating and developing team documents and resources in Microsoft Teams/ SharePoint.
• Conduct research e.g. to identify new content (e.g. Future of Work, Covid-19 impact on work), learning tools and platforms.
• Test and assess career development courses and platforms (e.g. Coursera, LinkedIn Learning…).
• Support the coordination of Team Resilience tools and resources
• Support the Project Lead in execution of the new AI talent management platform implementation (Fuel50).
• Potentially provide cross-support to other talent management processes e.g. talent and succession management.
• Assist the team in gap analysis, process work and data analysis.

Evaluation

• Maintain and update lists of various programme participants in Excel.
• Monitor completion of programme assignments in SharePoint lists.
• Provide support in programme evaluation and data analysis in MS Forms and Excel.
• Support creating evaluation documents.

Other

• Conduct research for best practices and other key topics.

Support ad-hoc activities related to TDU

Required Competencies and Experience

• Familiarity with global development issues and the world of the UN.
• Familiar with the values the UN and UNDP embodies and supports in all of its work
• Experience in human resources and / or career development preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
• Responsible, responsive, and enthusiastic.
• Ability to extract, interpret, analyse data, and resolve problems.
• Ability to support a team, team building skills.
• Strong attention to details.
• Strong IT skills and excellent knowledge of office software packages (e.g. PPT, Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator InDesign)
• Basic understanding of workflow automation (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Language skills: Fluency in English is required. Good working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an asset.

Interns are selected on a competitive basis. Applicants to UNDP’s internships must meet one of the following academic requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
