UN Women Jordan Country Office leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action. As the Syrian conflict continues and its impact on neighboring countries and host communities deepens, there is an increasing recognition among all partners that the development and humanitarian challenges arising from the crisis must be met with accelerated action and enhanced capacity. In this respect, UN Women is contributing to the United Nations processes to support the Government of Jordan's efforts and the UN humanitarian response to the Syrian refugee crisis and its impact on Jordanian host communities.

In order to meet its accountability on quality reporting to the donors, UN Women Jordan is seeking research, writing and editorial services to research and draft compelling content in line with the organization’s mandate and to support the implementation of the Jordan Country Office’s five-year programme for 2018-22. The Donor Report Writer/ Editor is required to produce a number of documents, including reports, briefs, presentations, concept notes, strategic papers, etc.

Objective of the Assignment:

Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the international consultant- Writer/ Editor will assume the responsibility to research, write and edit a range of high-quality content technical documents, proposals, concept note, briefs, donor reports, success stories etc. in close cooperation with Programme and Partnerships and Advocacy Units in the Jordan Country Office.

The consultant will be offered a retainer contract, i.e. one issued for one year during which the services of the consultant will be required based on an agreed plan with the Country Office and to respond to unexpected needs and opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Deputy Representative, the international consultant will work closely with the Programme Unit and the Partnerships and Advocacy Unit, to undertake the following tasks:

  1. Research, write and edit a range of high-quality content, including press releases, articles, information sheets, brochures, newsletters, reports, surveys, analytical notes, briefing notes and key messages;
  2. Identify and develop storylines for media outreach (e.g. op-eds, policy papers, thematic briefs, press releases);
  3. Write speeches on behalf of the UN Women Jordan Representative that are appropriate for the national context and adequately articulate the position of the organization across various thematic issues;
  4. Edit, revise and rewrite documents as needed to produce high quality, timely, results-based progress and project reports, concept notes and proposals aligned with UN Women established standards and formats;
  5. Produce summaries and briefs of reports and knowledge products for further dissemination among different audiences;
  6. Conceptualize and draft other relevant documents as requested.

Deliverables

  • Monthly time-sheets and brief progress reports about implemented activities and achieved results with supporting documents (summary of strategic meetings, training reports, other materials) submitted by the 5th of each month
  • Final report about the progress and achievements, lessons learnt, and recommendations submitted (up to 5 working days). by 25 December 2021.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in human rights, gender, international relations, international development, international law or other social science fields is required.

Experience

  •  At least 6 years of solid relevant professional experience in copy and content writing, research, editing, creative writing, journalism or related fields;
  • Proven track record of previous work experience with UN System or other international organizations in similar assignments;
  • Solid understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment issues; and

Familiarity with the Arab States region and/or Jordan a strong asset.
