Background

 

OHCHR-Colombia was established, upon request of the Commission on Human Rights and the initiative of the Government of Colombia, on 29 November 1996 by an Agreement between the Government of Colombia and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, (E/CN.4/1997/11). OHCHR has been present in Colombia since 1997. OHCHR-Colombia operates from the capital city, Bogotá, and twelve offices across the country.

Our national team is conformed for more than 100 talented professionals in different disciplines that confront challenges, solve complex problems and achieve key goals. For the Office, it´s very important its staff, and it´s a commitment to ensure the organization is equipped to meet current and future workforce and organizational needs so that employees have the skills and resources to work effectively and reach their full potential. One of these needs is a higher level of English proficiency, considering that English is one of the works United Nations work languages, all regulations, and rules are in English, and our HQ is in Geneva.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Human Resources Officer, the UNV Development and Training Associate will:

 

  • Support to the Human Resources Officer in implementing comprehensive and high-quality training;
  • Assist in the implementation of training programs focus to strengthen English knowledge, through coffee meetings, business development, and workshops;
  • Support training English program logistics, including creating/sending invitations, scheduling, working with presenters, creating and distributing sign-in sheets and materials, moderating programs, acting as a liaison with Conference Services, and collecting and compiling feedback;
  • Assist in the implementation of training courses as assigned;
  • Plan and maintain training schedules, reserves training rooms, and coordinates scheduling with all stakeholders;
  • Send out surveys after trainings and reports results and trends to Human Resources Officer;
  • Support the Human Resources Unit in the non-official translation from English to Spanish of the HR policies/updates and other related HR practices with all OHCHR Personnel
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the Human Resources Officer.

 

Results/Expected Output:

As an active OHCHR Colombia team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to OHCHR and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:

 

  • Effective and efficient contribution to various OHCHR English training activities;
  • Achievement of the objectives and goals of OHCHR formation through coordination, provision of training and development that meet the needs of both individual and organizational;
  • Capacity development through training, mentoring and formal training in the workplace,
  • Written documents relevantly translated so they can be applied in the training context and HR Communications.
  • Weekly / daily reports provided timely in a timely manner as required
  • Report on volunteer activities, events with UNV programme;
  • Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;
  • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • Master´s degree in English bilingual education
  • Al least 15 years of work experience in English training programs, adult learning programs, major projects, or related activities.
  • Knowledge of learning and development methodologies, formal design and development approaches, adult learning best practices
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Highly responsive;
  • Action-oriented and meets deadlines;
  • Well-developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to perform well under pressure;
  • Comfortable and competent with sensitive and confidential information;

  • Enjoys learning new information & systems;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;

  • Sound security awareness;

Living Conditions:

 

Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and one of the most populated cities in Latin America, so that subsistence expenses (including housing expenses) are higher than in other cities. Living and working

conditions in Bogotá present "low" risks. The city has security problems common to most growing capitals, however this does not create a permanent risk exposure for national and international staff. In Bogotá there are complete health services.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.

 

Terms of Service for national UN Volunteers:

 

The contract lasts for the period indicated above, with the possibility of extensions subject to the availability of financing, operational need and satisfactory performance. However, the renewal of the assignment is not foreseen.

The transfer to the workplace (if applicable) and an installation subsidy shall be provided if the working destination is not within a reasonable distance from the recruitment site. The corresponding subsistence allowance (VLA) is provided monthly to cover housing, services, ordinary living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance, as well as final repatriation (if applicable) are included.

In non-family places of destination, which belong to the categories of difficult living conditions D or E, according to the classification of the International Public Administration Commission (CAPI), International Volunteers from the United Nations receive a monthly Well-Being Differential or WBD.
