Travel:   

UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.

Cost of other travel, as deemed necessary by UNDP  while performing the outlined functions, shall be at UNDP’s expense and in accordance with the applicable UNDP travel policy.

Office/Unit/Project Description 

The Business Call to Action (BCtA) is a multilateral alliance between key donors. BCtA aims to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by challenging and supporting companies to develop inclusive business (IB) models that offer the potential for both commercial success and development impact. BCtA aims to enhance the visibility, credibility, scale, and effectiveness of inclusive businesses as market-based solutions to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs and benefit those at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP).

BCtA's aims to drive the IB agenda globally by engaging private sector, governments, and development community in joint efforts towards inclusive economic growth and social impact. BCtA members are market leaders and innovators, committed to developing commercially viable business ventures that engage people living at the BoP as consumers, producers, suppliers, and distributors of goods and services. Worldwide, over 276 companies have responded to BCtA by making commitments to improve the lives and livelihoods of millions through commercially viable business ventures.

In Phase III, BCtA has aimed to deliver scale and provide quality IB models across sectors and geographies by benefiting those at the BOP. Raising awareness of IB practices, guiding companies in aligning their contributions with the SDGs, providing recognition and visibility to quality IB commitments and supporting companies through tools and training in their IB maturity journey is another target of BCTA.

Under the direct supervision of the BCtA Programme Manager and in close collaboration with other BCtA team mebers, Programme Analyst, Outreach will support BCtA’s efforts in reaching out to potential new member companies, maintating regular and quality engagement with the existing member companies and promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing among focus COs and partner network organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Programme Analyst, Outreach  will be responsible for the performance of the following functions and duties:

Supporting Strategic Outreach:

  • Mapping and identifying sectors, subsectors and companies that are developing or using inclusive business models and have the potential to become BCtA member companies;
  • Developing series of activities pertaining to strategic outreach in order to scale-up BCtA’s operations and impact within the field of IB;
  • Building a pipeline of potential new member companies;
  • Conducting due diligence on potential member companies;
  • Identifying suitable networks for BCtA outreach and membership recruitment;
  • Developing and translating institutional materials directed to new members, when necessary;
  • Actively prospecting potential new member companies by effectively communicating BCtA’s value proposition;
  • Conducting due diligence on potential member companies according to the UNDP Policy on Due Diligence and Partnerships with the Private Sector;
  • Assisting with activities related to validation process of new members to continuously identify, assess, and address risks associated with companies.

Supporting Strategic Engagament and Retention:

  • Conducting regular check-ins with member companies to identify interesting updates, trends and potential areas for further support;
  • Maintaining and strengthening BCtA’s CRM system;
  • Engaging with member companies and encouraging them to undertake periodic reviews of their IB commitments and strategies in accordance with recent impact assessments and contextual changes;
  • Monitoring the progress of BCtA’s member companies and providing support for their IB activities;
  • Supporting member companies with annual member report submission;
  • Serving as a point of contact for member companies, including responding to any concerns or queries received and directing questions to other focal points as appropriate;
  • Developing and implementing the retention and recruitment strategy for BCtA member companies.

Supporting effective collaboration and knowledge management:

  • Supporting and building BCtA’s membership value proposition, including through support for development of services and trainings, and overseing BCtA’s work in the focus countries;  
  • Supporting the development of outreach strategies to engage new members in BCtA’s focus countries;
  • Supporting targeted outreach and engagement with country offices and IB companies;
  • Supporting the onboarding of country-level focal points, training them on the outreach and risk assessment of potential member companies and private sector partners.

Ability to apply various United Nations administrative rules and regulations in work situations. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis. Ability to identify issues, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommendations.

Communication:  Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication.

Planning& Organizing:  Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments.

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect.


Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

A Master's degree in International Management, International Development, Public Policy, or other relevant fields, such as Social Science, Economics or Business Administration.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • Up to 1 year of experience in private sector in development or in the development sector working on private sector issues is required. (applicable for candidates having Master’s degree)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working on due diligence or environmental social governance risk management is required. (applicable for candidates having bachelor’s degree)
  • Up to 1 year of experience working on due diligence or environmental social governance risk management is required. (applicable for candidates having Master’s degree)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working on due diligence or environmental social governance risk management is required. (applicable for candidates having bachelor’s degree)

Required  skills

  • Knowledge of Inclusive Business across sectors and regions is a must.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and communication skills, including excellent writing skills with experience producing reports, analysis and briefing materials is required.

Desired additional skills

  • Experience establishing working relationships with company executives as well as professionals is desirable.
  • Previous work experience in the UN system is an advantage.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

Fluency in written and spoken English Is required.
