Background

The Innovative and Digital Partnerships team within the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to announce the creation of a new internship opportunity to support an ongoing partnership with Samsung Mobile and the Individual Giving initiative, which is actively supporting local communities across the globe as they respond and recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

In August 2019, UNDP and Samsung started a new partnership to support and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals. The partnership has engaged new global audiences with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while developing fresh donation streams through the Samsung Global Goals (SGG) App that support UNDP's ongoing development work and the crisis response to COVID 19.

The offer to support UNDP country offices in developing their own digital individual giving/crowdfunding campaigns was developed in April 2020, as part of a crisis response mechanism to meet demand from UNDP country offices. It is one of many initiatives that mobilizes the assets of UNDP, as outlined in UNDP’s COVID-19Integrated Response, and helps countries respond during the outbreak and recover from economic and socialimpacts of the pandemic in the months to come.

Duties and Responsibilities

BERA is looking for a reliable, motivated student or recent graduate to join our team this summer, who is available for 8-10 weeks. Duties will include leading the translation of contents available on the SGG App into Korean, coordinate this initiative between Samsung’s team and UNDP’s digital team, operationalize the process for the future, and support on the development of the first crowdfunding campaign in Korean.

The intern must be a resourceful self-starter who thrives in a rapidly evolving context and will be able to work effectively in a demanding work environment. He/she will possess excellent attention to detail, follow through, and demonstrate advanced writing skills. Candidates with a strong interest and/or experience in sustainable development, international affairs, communications, and fundraising are highly preferred, as are candidates with fluency in Korean language.

Competencies

At a minimum, the candidate should be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. He/she ideally possesses digital media skills, including creating effective, persuasive online and social media content and visual assets on Canva/Photoshop. The candidate must be fluent in English, and Korean is a highly desired language skill.

While the intern will generally adhere to the Eastern Standard workday, he/she will also be required to workacross time zones globally and must be available outside of a standard 9 -5 p.m. EST schedule to effectivelysupport the work of regional bureaus and country offices.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in accessing IT resources, the intern must be able to provide his/her owncomputer for the duration of the assignment. Should the UNDP’s COVID-19 restrictions lift during the assignment, it may be possible to arrange for UNDP’s central IT department to provide a laptop for work use.

Required Skills and Experience

This is a paid ‘virtual’ assignment, and due to COVID-19 UNDP’s standard practice of ‘hosting’ interns in our physical office is suspended temporarily.

The assignment will require the intern to work up to 40 hours per week for 8-10 weeks.

Undergraduate and graduate students close to their final year of study (graduating May 2021 or May 2022) are welcome to apply.

Applicants should submit a resume that details their relevant work and educational experiences and cover letter stating their interests, qualifications, and any constraints on availability. Applicants are also invited to submit a writing sample or examples that showcase their ability or interest in the subject matter or desired skill set.

All documents should be together in one PDF file as the system will only allow one attachment.
