Travel:

This is a home-based position. UNCDF will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services in case of reassignment to different duty station.

Office/Unit/Project Description

The UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) makes public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 47 least developed countries. With its capital mandate and instruments, UNCDF offers “last mile” finance models that unlock public and private resources, especially at the domestic level, to reduce poverty and support local economic development. UNCDF’s financing models work through two channels: financial inclusion that expands the opportunities for individuals, households, and small businesses to participate in the local economy, providing them with the tools they need to climb out of poverty and manage their financial lives; and by showing how localized investments—through fiscal decentralization, innovative municipal finance, and structured project  finance—can drive public and private funding that underpins local economic expansion and sustainable development.

By strengthening how finance works for poor people at the household, small enterprise, and local infrastructure levels, UNCDF contributes to SDG 1 on eradicating poverty and SDG 17 on the means of implementation. By identifying those market segments where innovative financing models can have transformational impact in helping to reach the last mile and address exclusion and inequalities of access, UNCDF contributes to a number of different SDGs.

Digital economies:

UNCDF manages initiatives to develop inclusive digital finance ecosystems which offer a wide range of financial services specially for low-income vulnerable communities. Specifically, UNCDF provides a mix of policy, technical and financial support to a range of government and private sector actors in each country, as well as invests in research and other public goods to benefit all market actors. By supporting the development of digital finance ecosystem in these countries, UNCDF aims to increase the financial security of low income and rural households through access to appropriate, affordable and secure means to receive, manage and save money.

Enabling policy and regulation:

UNCDF has been working with national governments to improve access to financial services for over 25 years. In the last decade, we have focused specifically on the role that digital technologies play in accelerating usage of financial services by low-income people. In our role as a technical assistance provider and neutral broker, UNCDF works closely with global and national partners to build capacity and support governments to engage with industry to facilitate solutions to key market constraints at the local and regional level. With the support of new grants, the Policy Accelerator is currently expanding its support in French-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets.

Institutional Arrangement

Translation and Digital Communications Analyst, IPSA, will join the PA Project team and will contribute to the effective delivery of the programme’s activities, reporting to the Policy Lead, P-4 and in close collaboration with other PA and UNCDF colleagues across the regions.

This position will be initially home-based, and with possibility to be reassigned to a PA related country, as programme needs arise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

The Translation and Digital Communications Analyst, IPSA-9, is responsible for supporting the digital infrastructure of the UNCDF website and digital communications for the Policy Accelerator (PA) project. The Analyst will ensure that the PA website is correctly translated into French and will provide rapid translation support for presentations, social media, email outreach, and short publications to all members of the PA team. This person supports ongoing digital communications and will also be responsible for maintaining the PA’s customer relationship management database.

This person will work under the direct supervision of the Policy Lead, and in close collaboration with the Agile Delivery Specialist. They will also work regularly with Policy Accelerator team members, both at country and regional level.

Summary of key functions:

  • Ensure written translation of PA website (https://policyaccelerator.uncdf.org) from English into French and vice versa covering a broad range of digital finance policy topics, within given deadlines and at the quality level required
  • Provide digital communications support
  • Maintain and improve PA’s database management

Ensure written translation of PA website from English into French and vice versa

  • Ensure correct translation of existing content of PA website into French using the third-party software Weglot
  • Ensure all new content on PA website is translated correctly into French
  • Provide rapid translation support for the PA team presentations, social media, email outreach, and short publications from French to English and English to French
  • Support team in developing streamlined translation workflows
  • Proofread final product to ensure accuracy and idiomaticity
  • Provide copy-editing of existing content of PA website
  •  Support translation of content into Spanish as needed

Provide digital communications support (40%)

  • Using existing templates, work with team to write blog posts on PA impact and publish them to the website (Squarespace)
  • Support the drafting, design, and publication of blog posts and social media materials
  • Support updates to PA Toolkit and publication of related digital content (e.g., Briefs, Case Studies)
  • Draft social media for UNCDF, PA team, and partners
  • Design social media assets
  • Design low-lift reports and other materials requiring a quick turnaround
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Maintain and improve PA’s database management (10%)

  • With support from Agile Delivery Specialist, clean up existing contacts in the customer relationship management (CRM) database
  • Enter backlog of contacts / organizations / collaborations into CRM
  • Enter new contacts / organizations / collaborations into CRM
  • Identify communications and outreach opportunities based on time spent in CRM
  • Support day-to-day website management
  • Maintain PA’s customer relationship management database

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

  • Master’s degree preferred but a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, translation, or related discipline with an additional two years of experience could also meet this requirement.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • At least two years of progressive relevant work experience in the field of translation from English to French and vice versa is mandatory

Required skills and competencies

  • Demonstrated experience in writing content and designing graphics for online channels (e.g. web, blog, social media) is mandatory.
  • Proven experience providing “in-house” translation services is mandatory;

  • Communication skills in Arabic, Spanish, and other languages spoken in Africa will be considered a distinct advantage.
