Travel: 

  • UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements;
  • Any travels related to official performance of duties will be covered by UNDP.

Office/Unit/Project Description:  

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization with 17,000 staff working in approximately 170 offices globally.UNDP works with both governments and businesses to strengthen the environment and business practices for greater alignment with all dimensions of the 2030 Agenda. The Rome Centre for Sustainable Development (RCSD) was conceived during Italy’s G7 Presidency in 2017, at the Environment Ministers’ meeting in Bologna. In implementing the G7 decision, the Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS, currently the Ministry of Ecological Transition, IMET) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) took the decision to set up the “Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development” (ACSD). The mandate of the ACSD changed in December 2020 and the office was renames RCSD. The consultant will be supporting the implementation of the RCSD Programme of Work.

Institutional Arrangement:

The IPSA Holder will report to the  Manager of the RCSD for task. The consultant will be office based in Rome.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work: 

The IPSA Holder shall:

  • Proactively support the finalisation of the workplan and budget and any required revision, including relevant required documents, such as a revised project document, a monitoring and evaluation plan and a quality assurance system according to UNDP Rules and Regulations; 
  • Support the development of partnerships with key Italian and international institutions;
  • Support the implementation of joint inititiaves with key partners, including the management of grants and innovation challenges;
  • Support the provision of the RCSD strategic support to bilateral cooperation activities of Italian Cooperation Agencies, including the establishments of partnerships with the DG for Bilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and the Italian Cooperation Agency (AICS);
  • Supports the preparation of project progress updates and annual/final reports by implementers as outlined in the cost sharing agreements.

Required Skills and Experience

 

Min. Academic Education:

  • Masters’ Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Minimum 2 years of direct work experience on management of projects in an international context, preferably within UNDP;
  • Relevant experience in programme/project management, financial resources management, budget management, and/or administrative support functions;
  • Experience in project oversight and/or monitoring highly desirable;
  • Experience with tools and methodologies to follow-up on projects or project cycle management.

Desired additional Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships, including with UN and international organizations, NGOs and the private sector;
  • Knowledge of UNDP Environment, Energy and Climate offer an advantage;
  • Good knowledge of an ERP System (such as Atlas) and UNDP procurement, programming, and budgeting structure is an advantage;
  • Experience in supporting partnership development and management ad advantage.

Required Language(s) (at working level):

  • Excellent knowledge of the English language is required;
  • Working knowledge of Italian is an advantage.
