Office/Unit Description

The Operational Performance Management Team is a group of internal UNDP management and performance analysts available to support UNDP business units worldwide to improve management and operational performance in line with UNDP’s Strategic Plan. This team is comprised of data analysts, as well as management and organization change advisors. The team is housed in the Office of Budget, Performance and Compliance.

The Performance Division contributes to the advancement of UNDP’s operational performance and organizational effectiveness by bringing industry-standard knowledge, advisory services, and data analytics for performance improvements and enhancements to UNDP’s overall day-to-day business.

The Data Analyst supports the Performance Division in advancing operational performance and organizational effectiveness through the provision of data analytics to support Performance Division’s work products, assignments and toolkits.

Travel:

  • UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.
  • Include any official travel expected to be associated with performing the functions

The Data Analyst will be under the direct supervision and guidance of the Management Specialist (Analytics) Organigram attached in Annex.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Under the supervision and guidance of the Management Specialist (Analytics), the data analyst is expected to:

  • Undertake research, data collection and analysis related to organizational performance and organizational effectiveness
  • Undertake end to end data analysis workflows from data collection, data wrangling, data exploration, data modelling and analysis, data communication and visualization
  • Create and maintain data analysis tools, dashboards, databases, and data management workflows
  • Participate in Performance Division assignments and contribute to presentations, and report writing
  • Support project management of Performance Division assignments including planning and coordination

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Qualifications of the Successful IPSA

Min. Academic Education

  • Masters degree in Public Policy, Development Studies, Project Management, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, Data Science, or related area

Min. years of relevant

Work experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.

Required skills and competencies

  • Research and analysis experience
  • MS Excel required at an advanced level
  • PowerBI required at an advanced level

Desired additional skills and competencies

  • Knowledge or work experience in UNDP or similar organization highly desirable
  • Knowledge of DAX (PowerBI) and VBA (Excel) highly desirable
  • Experience in developing data analysis tools highly desirable
  • Knowledge of tools, languages, and libraries related to data and statistical analysis (e.g. R, STATA, Python), front-end development (e.g. Javascript, CSS), and visualization (e.g. d3.js, Plotl.ly) desirable
  • Knowledge of UI/UX development desirable

Required Language(s) (at working level)

  • Proficiency in the English language, is required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
