Background

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. UNV works with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well-supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The External Relations and Communications Section (ERCS) builds and nurtures corporate donor relations, strategically leads the donor resource mobilization platform and conducts coherent communications efforts to highlight the value of volunteerism for peace and development and the contributions of UNV and UN Volunteers.

The Communications team focuses on clear and effective content and tools to increase the visibility and impact of UNV. It raises awareness on the work of UN Volunteers and of volunteerism and its contribution to development among UNV stakeholders, encourages support of volunteerism for development.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Main objectives, responsibilities and description of the proposed work

UNV reaches out to diverse audiences through different channels and means – web, social media, in-person and virtual representation and media outreach. External audiences comprise our UN and funding partners, civil society organizations (including volunteer-involving organizations), media (through traditional and online channels), and the general global public.

Deliverables and timeline

Under the direction of the Communications Analyst, External Relations and Communications Section, the Consultant will be responsible for the delivery of the below outputs:

  • Research and draft a list of influencers in the field of altruism, solidarity and volunteerism in all regions where UNV is present, in close collaboration with regional offices – final list to be approved by supervisor.
  • Draft influencer engagement plan (by 5 July) and, once approved by supervisor, conduct targeted outreach to influencers to establish collaboration with at least 2 influencers per region (total of 6 regions), and at least 3-4 global influencers.
  • Organize and conduct meetings with secured influencers to discuss specific contributions, milestones and timeline.
     
  • Conduct video meeting-dialogues among influencers or between influencers and volunteers/UNV staff, drafting questions and a script-skeleton for the dialogues, establishing concrete staging and set guidelines for the filming.
  • Coordinate production of 8 to 12 videos of the dialogues (1-2 to be published every 1-1.5 weeks from early-November to mid-December), adhering to UNV’s video, style and brand guidelines.
  • Draft messages for influencers to post on their own social media channels, sourcing photos and other content that UNV can also cross-promote on its social media channels (including organizing at least 1-2 live chats with influencers, to be held on UNV’s social media).

Competencies

Required Competencies
 

  • 2-3 years of experience in digital communications, including experience with influencer/creator engagement on social media.
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills, and at least 2 years’ work experience as content writer.
  • Creative open-minded team player with strong initiative and excellent interpersonal skills.
    Culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism to advance sustainable development.
  • Flexibility and client-oriented approach.

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media or other relevant area; or a degree in another related area in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience in communications and public relations.

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in digital communications, including experience with influencer/creator engagement on social media.
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills, and at least 2 years’ work experience as content writer.

Language requirements:
 

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Other UN languages are a plus.
     

 

Criteria for Selection of the best Offer:
 

The selection of the best offer will be based on the combined scoring method, where the qualifications and experience will be weighted 70 percent, and then combined with the price offer, which will be weighted 30 percent.

Key selection criteria are:

  • 2-3 years of experience in digital communications, including experience with influencer/creator engagement on social media. (60%)
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills, and at least 2 years’ work experience as content writer. (40%)

Recommended Presentation of Offer

Applicants have to provide a technical and financial proposal. 

The technical proposal shall consist of:

  • Motivation Letter describing their interest in the assignment and why they are the most suitable for the work;
  • Personal CV or P11, indicating all past experience from similar projects, as well as the contact details (email and telephone number) of the Candidate and at least three (3) professional references;

The financial proposal shall consist of 

  If an Offeror is employed by an organization/company/institution, and he/she expects his/her employer to charge a management fee in the process of releasing him/her to UNV under Reimbursable Loan Agreement (RLA), the Offeror must indicate at this point, and ensure that all such costs are duly incorporated in the financial proposal submitted to UNDP.
