Under the guidance of the Chief Security Advisor/ Deputy Chief Security Adviser, and direct supervision of associated Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO), and UNDSS Administrative Associates, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

 The Driver provides driving services to UNDSS staff, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Drives office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other supplies and equipment within and outside the duty station.
  • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: Checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs other minor repairs and arranges for external repairs and ensures that the vehicles is kept clean and in good working order.
  • Logs official trips, daily mileages, gas/fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing and other services and timely annual inspection and registration with the Ministry of Transport, etc.
  • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in cases of any involvement in accidents.
  • Collects and delivers mail, pouches and other documents from and to the post office, airport, government agencies and other organizations.  Operates photocopying and other office equipment.
  • Uses official time for self-study.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Intermediate Education. Valid Driver’s license. 

Experience:

At least 3 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair. Previous experience with United Nations agencies in Sudan is highly desired.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in the English and Arabic is required.
