Background

The UNDP corporate website is undergoing an important overhaul that includes: adopting multimedia as a primary vehicle for online outreach; upgrading the corporate website’s design and accessibility standards; procuring all the necessary tools, including a corporate Content Management System, to facilitate this process.
 
The Office of Communications is seeking a bilingual Web Manager Consultant who will contribute to the implementation of UNDP’s corporate strategy for the Web and help maintain the UNDP corporate website, including the French version of the site.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific deliverables
 
French corporate website
  • Maintain www.undp.org/french with written and multimedia from HQ, regional centers and country offices. Liaise with the rest of the team on whether and how material should be presented on the other language sections of the UNDP corporate website;
  • Edit and publish online content in French and English that is clear, concise, vivid, and conveys key messages to target audiences on the Web. Ensure that all content is timely, accurate and compelling;
  • Enhance navigation, structure and content across www.undp.org/french, liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages;
  • Contribute to the publication of a wide series of multimedia products including photo galleries, videos and audio materials in French;
  • Liaise with the rest of the Office of Communications to determine how specific events should be covered and marketed on the Web in all three languages.
Corporate online strategy
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of UNDP’s corporate strategy for Web, making sure that the organization complies with the strictest standards of design, content, usability and security;
  • Support the rest of the team to ensure the best standards for Search Engine Optimization and Web Analytics.
  •  Provide guidance and feedback for UNDP’s webmasters in the Country Offices, helping them to comply with UNDP’s requirements for Country Office websites;
  • Encourage all Country Offices to comply with the Associate Administrator’s requirements for online transparency; report to donors by organizing presentations;
  • Assist all HQ units and regional bureaus to consolidate their presence on the Web while staying in tune with the organization’s branding and identity;
  • Help all other specialized units to develop the most appropriate strategies for a wide variety of project-specific sites;
  • Review and publish content submitted by other HQ units.

Competencies

  • Outstanding copywriting and editing skills in French and English, with an ability to clear and post a high volume of quality content;
  • Solid understanding of outreach and marketing on the Web;
  • Fluency in French is a must; near-native fluency in English is highly desirable; working knowledge of other UN languages, especially Spanish also a plus;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment;
  • Highly motivated to work for and familiar with the UN system in general and UNDP in particular;

Required Skills and Experience

Skills and experience:  
  • University Degree in journalism, international affairs, communications or similar field.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in communications, journalism or multimedia;
  • Significant experience with web publishing, including Content Management Systems, advanced knowledge of HTML/Dreamweaver; experience in Flash and online video publishing;
  • Working knowledge of photo editing software;
  • Knowledge of online social networking highly desired.
