Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The role of the IMPACT lead is to develop and implement the strategy surrounding private sector, university, and Head of State engagement across the IMPACT 10x10x10 pilot, managing a group of senior stakeholders across the IMPACT Champion organizations. This position reports directly to the Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of UN Women, Elizabeth Nyamayaro.

The IMPACT lead will define the overall program structure and goals for the IMPACT 10x10x01. Based on this, he / she will identify appropriate best-in-class companies, universities and Heads of State for inclusion in the pilot program, working closely with each institution to shape innovative and bold commitments to gender equality. He / she will own the end-to-end process of the IMPACT pilot, including convening key meetings, and developing a handoff strategy to ensure processes are in place for the program to continue to succeed after this position concludes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop overall strategy and approach for IMPACT 10x10x10, including program goals, timelines and deliverables in support of HeForShe campaign;
  • Work with external teams to publicize IMPACT champions and their commitments;
  • Support IMPACT champions for program success, working closely with senior leadership at each organization to ensure implementation of commitments, through timely resolution of challenges, best-practice sharing, and collaboration where appropriate;
  • Define engagement strategy for IMPACT champions, including meeting cadence, team leadership, Secretariat structure, and meeting outputs;
  • Plan, facilitate and execute key meetings with partners;
  • Manage team of ~30 senior stakeholders across corporate, university, and Head of State champions, including university president and CEO-level relationships;
  • Working with content experts, define and implement gender equality reporting structure to be implemented by each IMPACT champion;
  • In cooperation with champions, implement reporting structure including the development of groundbreaking parity and progress report for IMPACT champions;

Develop two-year plan for IMPACT 10x10x10, including sustainable leadership structure, meeting cadence, key outputs, and timelines for handoff when position concludes.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in public health, law, business administration, business management, public administration, or other related social sciences.

Experience:

  • 5+ years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Familiarity with project management software, such as MS Project etc.;
  • Experience in all areas related to gender issues
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

 Language:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
