Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women is currently implementing an EU-funded Programme   “Promoting Women’s Engagement in Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria”. The initiative supports the Federal Government, three Northern States of Nigeria, and selected constituted Local Government Areas (LGAs) to strengthen women’s leadership, advance gender equality and improve protection for women and children in conflict setting

One of the Programme deliverables is the review of existing peace architecture in the three states of Adamawa, Gombe and Plateau States. This has been undertaken by a team of researchers and a research report produced.

Duties and Responsibilities

UN Women requires the services of an Editor to edit the full report for publication and also produce a summarized reports. The current report which combines of all of the findings of the three states is 252 pages

  Specific tasks and responsibility:

Under the overall supervision of the Women Peace and Security , Programme Manager, UN Women

  • Edit the full peace architecture report with the aim of producing a concise report  which should not exceed 50 pages
  • Produce a summarized report of the full peace architecture report including the recommendations for programming – maximum of 30 pages
  • Produce three distinct summarized peace architecture reports including the recommendations for programming (one for each state) – maximum of 10 pages each
  • Produce a summary of the findings of the three states combined for a maximum of 10 pages
  • Use language that will be culturally sensitive

  Deliverables:

  • 3 summarized peace architecture reports- Adamawa, Plateau and Gombe States
  • 3 full reports of the peace architecture reports- Adamawa, Plateau and Gombe
  • I combined summary of the peace architecture  reports in the three states
  • 1 full report of the peace architecture report of all the three states

  Methodology

The assignment will be conducted through:-

  • Desk review of the Peace and Security Architecture report
  • Liaising with the Programme Manager and other team members

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree with relevant experience in English, Mass Communication, Journalism or any other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of high-level experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats and styles.
  • Substantial experience in the usage of computers and office software package
  • Experience in producing documents suitable for dissemination in Nigeria
  • Experience in disseminating information to a variety of target audiences.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Fluency in English. Hausa will be an added advantage
