Background

The UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects.  

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

Objective of the internship: Provide administrative support to the Waste Management/ Recycling Initiative on the Angola’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Accelerator Lab. 

Organizational Context

Under the overall guidance of the Angola’s SDG Accelerator Lab focal point, the incumbent will provide support to the Waste Management/Recycling Initiative of Angola’s SDG Accelerator Lab ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Innovation Assistant promotes a client-oriented and consistent with rules and regulations approach to this initiative.

The Innovation Assistant will work in close collaboration close collaboration with the other service center team members in close collaboration with UNDP Inclusive Growth Cluster Leader, as well as other Operations, Programme and projects staff in the CO and UN agencies staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures efficient administrative support , focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Overall support to Angola’s SDG Accelerator Lab on Waste Management/Recycling;
  • Support in the organization of meeting and events linked to the SDG Accelerator Lab;
  • Support the SDG Accelerator Lab all administrative issues, including making appointments, drafting documents, following up on administrative issues;
  • Support on the elaboration of Terms of Reference for the Lab team;
  • Support on identifying actors involved with waste management/recycling in Luanda;
  • Gathering of information on issues related to Waste Management and Waste Recycling in Luanda;
  • Elaboration of presentations in Power point;
  • Draft of meeting minutes in Word;
  • Technical translations from English to Portuguese and viceversa;
  • Other duties as directed by the Angola’s SDG Accelerator Lab focal point

Impact of Results 

The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the unit. Accurate analysis and presentation of information, thoroughly researched and fully documented work strengthens the capacity of the office and facilitates subsequent action by the supervisor. Incumbent’s own initiative is decisive in results of work and timely finalization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Economics or related studies; 
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Economics or related studies; 
  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:  

  • No experience required.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Portuguese and good working knowledge of English is required.

Conditions of internship:

  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. 
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
