Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP works through 136 country offices to provide development advocacy, advice and assistance to 166 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Arab States, Eastern Europe, CIS, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Cluster on Development Impact focuses on assisting UNDP and partners to achieve higher quality development results through an integrated approach that links results-based management and performance monitoring with more effective and new ways of working. It seeks to do so by enabling UNDP and others to be more innovative, and to make more evidence and data driven decisions by identifying, testing, sharing, learning from and institutionalizing what works. It acts as a hub on all aspects of results-based management, development performance monitoring and analysis, as well as identifying, collecting, and sharing ideas on new and better ways of working across the UNDP network, social innovators, and the development community. The intern will be working with the Development Results and Performance Analysis Team (Results Team) of the Development Impact Group, Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (DIG/BPPS). The Intern will work closely with the DIG Results Team, Regional Bureaux, Central Bureaux and Information and Technology Management (IMT) team. He/she will report to the Team Leader of the DIG Results Team.

UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will assist the Results Team with the following duties:

Results analysis for the Annual Report of the Administrator for 2018, including the analysis of indicator data and narrative results reported through the Results Oriented Analysis Report (ROAR) by UNDP’s 130 Country Offices.
The language of narrative reporting is English, Spanish and French.
Analyze evaluation data reported through the ROAR and the Evaluation Resource Centre.

Ability to analyze results information by triangulating quantitative and qualitative data and evidence;
Ability to evaluate, transform and model data to derive relevant findings;
Knowledge of methodologies, tools, systems and apply practical experience in planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting and ability to apply to practical situations;
Skilled working with data entry, analysis and clean up, using Microsoft Excel.
Experience working with data visualization tools (for example, Microsoft Power BI) a plus;
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
Attention to detail is crucial;
Ability to work independently;

Responsible, responsive and enthusiastic.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

The studies should be in development, social sciences, statistics, economics, business administration or similar.
