Background

UNDP’s Crisis Prevention and Recovery Programs hosts Peace and Development Advisor (PDA) team that provides support for the three UN Country Teams (UNCT) in the South Caucasus in terms of political analysis, conflict-related crisis preparedness and peacebuilding programming support. The PDA team includes Regional Peace and Development Advisor (RPDA), who leads the work of the team, and three National PDAs in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

In terms of political analysis, the team employs multiple methods of data analysis and scenario building to assess regional and national trends and patterns relevant to the ability of UNCTs  to deliver its humanitarian and developmental assistance. This  analysis helps informing the UN’s positioning on a wide range of political and conflict-related issues. In terms of conflict-related crisis-preparedness, the team supports  the processes of revising inter-agency response and preparedness plans and raising the capacity of UN staff to respond   to crisis scenarios.
