Background

In adapting to the growing complexity of the 21st century, the United Nations need to respond dynamically to ensure it remains instrumental in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets for the 2030 agenda. Technological innovation and the role of partnerships across sectors have become increasingly important to accelerate progress in addressing the problems that humanity face.

In close partnership with the Government of Haryana, India, the UN is establishing and operationalizing the United Nations Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL) located in Hartron Multi Skill Development Centre at Gurugram, Haryana, India.

The priority focus of the UNTIL Haryana Lab will be establishing partnerships with UN Funds and Programmes as well as Governments, Academia, NGOs and Private Sector leveraging technology to address SDGs challenges in the areas of Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

This position is located in UNTIL Haryana and will report to the lab manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, and in close cooperation with the UNTIL Haryana Lab Manager, the Communications Associate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide day to day support to manage content on UNTIL India webpages;
  • Provide support to manage and update the social media accounts of UNTIL India;
  • Monitor social media accounts for content including twitter and Facebook;
  • Assist in running social media campaigns on thematic areas from time to time under the project on Strengthening Gender, Education, Health and technologies involved, on social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter etc.
  • Support in live twitter chats and live tweeting during important events;
  • Monitor data, trends and activity for social media accounts of UNTIL India.
  • Identify, source and write new web content for the project on Strengthening Entrepreneurship among women and other related areas;
  • Support the creation of digital content like videos and photo essays for website and other digital platforms including Flickr;
  • Prepare periodic e-mailers about new content to share with UNTIL management and its partners;
  • Support in publishing of e-newsletters of the UNTIL India programme.
  • Write, edit and proof-read communication products such as web-stories, photo blogs, brochures, reports, e-newsletters, articles etc.;
  • Develop content and support in design of knowledge products such as project factsheets, flyers, Good practices/impact stories and other such publications;
  • Support the Project Team in identifying and documenting best practices from field;
  • Track and disseminate communications materials as and when required.
  • Support media outreach by updating media databases on a regular basis;
  • Support planning and executing events of media events by issuing invites, following up with journalists, preparing media kits;
  • Support in preparing press release. 
  • Support high-profile events hosted by the UNTIL;
  • Support in procurement of communication services and materials and management of vendors;
  • Support logistics related to events and press conferences;
  • Update contact lists and mailing lists;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Improved digital outreach and sharing, high quality information material and well-organized public events leading to enhanced UNTILs position as a strong development partner.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Graduate Degree from a recognized University in Communications, Journalism, social sciences or behavioral sciences. 

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in communications / public relations / publishing / editing.  
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including writing for digital media
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as other specialized software (Adobe Editor, photo and video editing software, Flickr, Word Press).
  • Experience in the use of social media for advocacy

Language:

  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Hindi is required.

Official travel

  • All official travel must be authorized in advance. 

SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS

  • Consolidated six months consultancy fees (Remuneration) of INR 4,50,000/- payable in equal monthly installments of INR 75,000 upon submission of monthly progress report.

INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT

  • The consultant should report to Lab Manager
  • Consultant will be entitled for 2 days leave per month (non encashable)

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

• Personal CV, indicating all past experience from similar projects, as well as the contact details (email and telephone number) of the candidate and at least three (3) professional references.

EVALUATION METHOD AND CRITERIA

Step 1: Short listing would be done based on the following criteria

  • Educational Qualification - 30 Marks;
  • Relevant Experience - 40 Marks;

Step 2: Personal Interviews (Face to Face/ Skype)

  • Suitability for the assignment - 30 Marks;

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The interviews will be conducted based on the competencies (skills) required as per the ToR. Final selection will be done on the basis of merit/marks secured in interview process.
