Competencies

Corporate

  • Demonstrates integrity and fairness, by modeling the UN/UNDP’s values and ethical standards;
  • Promotes the vision, mission and strategic goals of UNDP;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability

Functional

  • Demonstrated ability for facilitation and coordination skills and have the capacity to properly communicate and disseminate approaches, activities and accomplishments of EBM projects.
  • Proven knowledge and practical experiences in using GIS software and handling large databases
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities and demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner
  • Background knowledge about the SDGs, United Nations and UNDP.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Excellent command of the English language (both written and oral communication); French is considered an additional asset
  • Excellent computer skills especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of working with virtual meeting platforms/technologies. 


Required Skills and Experience

Education

The EBM Senior Expert must hold a PhD degree and ten years of professional experience in technical and scientific natural-resources-management and sustainable-development projects gained in international and multi-cultural environments.

Experience

Given the technical and methodological characteristics of the tasks to be executed, the senior expert professional record must include at least one direct experience in handling the application of the methods and tools mentioned in the Background section of this document. More recent experiences in applying the EBM Protocol in coastal and marine zones will be considered an asset.

Additional qualifications The senior expert`s professional record should also include experiences in all the following sectors:

  • Development of Decision Support Systems for integrated spatial planning/management by applying participative and socio-ecological systemic methodologies, including in coastal and marine areas;
  • Design and implementation of systemic analytical frameworks to assess and quantify socio-ecological dynamics through quantitative indicators, including in coastal and marine areas;
  • Development of integrated sets of Ecosystem-Based management measures, including in coastal and marine areas
  • Design, execution and leading participative stakeholders consultation workshops, including through the alternance of working groups and plenary sessions
  • Design and execution of data gathering surveys for ecological data.
