Background |
|
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. In September 2017, the EU and the UN launched an ambitious joint partnership to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls worldwide. The Spotlight Initiative (SI) aims at mobilizing commitment of political leaders and contributing to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Initiative aims at ending all forms of violence against women and girls, targeting those that are most prevalent and contribute to gender inequality across the world. The Spotlight Initiative will deploy targeted, large-scale investments in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Pacific and the Caribbean, aimed at achieving significant improvements in the lives of women and girls. Guyana, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago are three of the countries in the Caribbean to benefit from this transformative initiative. The overall vision of the Spotlight Initiative in is that women and girls realize their full potential free from violence. The Spotlight Initiative will directly contribute to the achievement of three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 5 on Gender Equality, Goal 3 on good health and well-being and Goal 16 on inclusive and peaceful societies. The program will contribute to the elimination of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) through the creation of a broad partnership with Civil Society, Government, Private Sector, Media, among others; and, build a social movement of women, men, girls, boys and transgender people as champions and agents of change at the national, subnational and community levels. A specific focus will be on reaching and including in the program women and girls who are often isolated and most vulnerable to sexual & gender-based violence (SGBV) and harmful practices (HP) due to intersecting forms of discrimination. The SI Country Programmes will use a multi-sectoral, multi-layered, interlinked community-centered approach to the implementation of the interventions on the following six Outcome Areas based on the socio-ecological model for addressing SGBV: Pillar One: Legislative and Policy Frameworks Pillar Two: Strengthening Institutions Pillar Three: Prevention and Social Norms Pillar Four: Delivery of Quality, Essential Services Pillar Five: Data Availability and Capacities Pillar Six: Supporting the Women’s Movement and CSO Under the following Spotlight Initiative Country Programmes, UN Women is seeking a Consultant to support the following activities: Spotlight Initiative Trinidad and Tobago Activity 3.1.1: Collaborate with CSOs and youth peer groups to design and implement adapted primary prevention programming (Foundations and CSE) which promotes gender equality and violence prevention behaviour change programmes for out of school youth. Spotlight Initiative Grenada Activity 3.1.2: Implement condensed prevention programming (Foundations) which promotes gender equality and violence prevention behaviour change programmes for out of school youth within existing youth development programmes Spotlight Initiative Guyana Activity 3.1.3: Introduce the Foundations Programme integrating violence prevention messaging that target teens, mothers and fathers in addition to endowing children and young people with knowledge, skills, attitudes and strategies for addressing conflict (resolution/mediation) techniques) and responding to stress and stressors that arise in relationships and establish and model an atmosphere of respect within group relations among and between young people. Under the overall supervision of UN Women Representative and direct supervision by the Spotlight Programme Coordinator, the regional consultant will support NGOs with the implementation and roll-out of the Foundations Programme under the Spotlight Initiative, within various institutions in territories including Guyana, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago. UN Women already has trained a select group of Master Trainers on the Foundations curriculum which facilities rapid planning and implementation of the programme and ensuring adherence to the Programme standards. The Master Trainer will adopt a Train the Trainer approach for identified facilitators and provide support to facilitators in the delivery of training directly to beneficiaries and will also carry out monitoring and evaluation for the duration of the Programme
