Travel:

  1. UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.
  2. Official travel is not envisaged with performing the functions for this consultancy.

 

Office/Unit/Project Description

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development network, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA leads and supports UNDP in building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances essential to achieving its mission. The Bureau leads UNDP’s work on innovative and diversified partnerships and ways of financing the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also responsible for global campaigns on critical development issues, which aim to inform government policies and build partnerships around high-impact solutions. BERA coordinates and sets corporate standards across the functions of partnerships, marketing and communications within UNDP and leads on internal communications.

Within BERA, the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. Being an integral part of Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group, the Digital Comms Studio plays an essential role to develop and manage UNDP’s global online presence, creating compelling public-facing content, leading on social networks and digital engagement, building capacities for greater impact through digital communications, and helping build a strong brand for UNDP.

The Digital Communications Specialist (Spanish) is part of the Digital Comms Studio and will be supervised by the Team Manager. This team member will also be a key member of cross-sectional teams to plan and implement major communication campaigns and projects.

Institutional Arrangement

The consultant will be working under the direct supervision of the Team Leader of the Digital Comms Studio and overall guidance of the Senior Management of the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group in BERA.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Scope of Work

 Under the supervision of the Team Leader of the Digital Comms Studio, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

 Summary of Key Functions:

  1.  Maintain and improve the Spanish corporate site www.undp.org/spanish; and ongoing contribution of multimedia content to the English and Spanish sites;
  2. Manage and increase engagement of Spanish social media platforms;
  3. Participate in digital campaigns and initiatives planning and execution;
  4. Support the Digital team with analytics and results reporting.

1. Maintain and improve the Spanish global corporate website:

  •  Maintain and update www.undp.org/spanish with multimedia content from HQ, regional centers and country offices;
  • Conceptualize, research, edit and produce multimedia stories and other digital communication products in Spanish that are clear, concise, vivid, and convey key messages to target audiences;
  • Search across UNDP websites and liaise with other HQ units, Regional Bureaus and Country Offices to identify blogs, stories and multimedia content to be published on www.undp.org, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Ensure that all content is timely, accurate and compelling;
  • Work with other digital communications specialists to test and optimize content through new approaches and on emerging platforms;
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of www.undp.org;
  • Enforce standards and best practice for web publishing on www.undp.org. liaising with the team to ensure consistency across languages.

2. Maintain and improve the Spanish social media platforms:

  •  Maintain the corporate social media platforms in Spanish, increasing engagement;
  • Working closely with the Manager, Digital and Online, to determine digital communication goals for reach and engagement through social media;
  • Translate and edit social media graphics, videos, kits and plans into Spanish;
  •  Ensure the proper and selective use of social media for audience development;
  • Identify and work with influencers for a strategic promotion of UNDP’s work and key messages;
  • Seek opportunities and partnerships to promote UNDP and its priorities through Spanish web and social media;
  • Monitor trends in using social media for outreach purposes and appropriately apply that knowledge to increase UNDP’s visibility;
  • Support the development of performance and campaigns results reporting through analytics and qualitative analysis.

3.  Provide digital communications support for HQ units, regional centers and country offices:

  • Collaborate and work closely with the team’s communications and digital focal points, sharing content for different platforms;
  • Review and edit content submitted by other HQ units, regional centers and country offices;
  • Build and share knowledge with UNDP colleagues through participation in communications workshops or trainings, developing guidelines and providing general support, as requested.

4.  Collaborate in the development and implementation of UNDP’s digital communications strategy:

  • Create and support the planning and development of a wide series of campaigns and multimedia products including microsites, photo essays, narrative features, videos and infographic materials, considering UNDP’s key events and priorities;
  • Identify and develop creative opportunities to increase engagement from key audiences and awareness of UNDP´s work;
  • Contribute to the team and the Communications group digital strategy and editorial planning;
  • Contribute to the strategic promotion of key content, coordinating with UNDP, UN and other partners focal points.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

  • Master's degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, international relations, fine arts or related fields.
  • First degree acceptable with an additional two years of experience in relevant field.

Min. years of relevant

Work experience

  • Excellent knowledge of and skills in communications, media and advocacy.
  • 2 years of relevant experience (with University Degree) at the national or international level in the relevant field(s).
  • Strong editing work skills in Spanish for public communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
  • Capability to work with social media campaigns and content creation.

Desired additional skills and competencies

  • Experience in the usage of content management systems is highly desirable;
  • Photo and video editing skills are an asset;
  • Graphic design skills are an asset;
  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international/UN organization desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
  • Attention to detail is crucial;
  • Understanding of international development; international relations; or environmental and/or other relevant issues strongly preferred.
