Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, UN Women works for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. 

As part of her Evaluation Policy, UN Women conducts country portfolio evaluations (CPE) to learn and be accountable on programme performance. A CPE is a study designed to systematically articulate an appreciation of the performance and contributions made by a given Country Office guided by its strategic note. UN Women Cameroon Office CPE report was recently conducted to assess the CO’s comparative advantage and strategic positioning, along with the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of its strategic note 2018-2021. 

UN Women WCARO is seeking to contract a Professional Editor to edit, proofread and streamline the French version of the CPE report in collaboration with a graphic designer. The Professional Editor will be contracted during May 2021 to work for 4 days over the course of a three week period. 

Objective of the Assignment: 

The overall objective of the assignment is to prepare a Country Portfolio Report that is proofread and highly reader-friendly. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision and overall guidance of WCARO’s Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst, the consultant will perform the following tasks: 

  • Edit, copy-edit and proofread country portfolio report, including charts, graphs using data visualization tools; 
  • Ensure correctness of report language (i.e. use of grammatically correct language, spellings, politically appropriate language among others), tone and style, adhering to the UN Women style guide and results language; 
  • Proofread the text as laid out by the designer; 
  • Consult with Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst and the graphic designer selected to develop ideas for graphics and charts that creatively convey key messages/data in the report, as well as write captions for the photos in the publication; 
  • Incorporate revisions related to content, design and/or language; 
  • Ensure the report adheres to UN Women’s branding standards for language and presentation. 
  • Submit finalized report to the Regional Office within the indicated timeline. 

 

Deliverables: 

The main deliverable is a high-quality & analytical evaluation report with high quality design, text boxes, data, graph with lessons learnt and comparatives experiences, compliant with UN Women branding guidelines  

 

The final document should contain:  

Executive Summary, Main Report, including table of contents, abbreviations, photo captions and credit information, Annexes and Appendices

Time-frame and Fees: 

After the signature of the contract, the consultant will work for 4 working days over a period of 3 weeks. It is noted that due to the nature of the project, there could be periods of time when the consultant will be waiting for text clearances from UN Women and/or layouts from the designer. The consultant will be supported by the Evaluation team, as well as the communication team in order to ensure success. Fees will be paid according to the Table under Deliverables.

Required Skills and Experience

Education 

Masters’ Degree in Public Relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing with at least five (5) years’ experience.   

Functional Competencies: 

  • Strong research and excellent writing skills in French and English, including analytic writing skills;  
  • Good macro analysis skills based on qualitative and quantitative data (infographics) 
  • Excellent organizational skills; 
  • Experience in producing corporate products; 
  • Good understanding of UN, including UN Women, development issues; 
  • Knowledge of UN terms, language and style; 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
