UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. UN Women in Bangladesh supports the government to implement commitments to international normative standards on gender equality and women’s human rights. The new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2022-2026 was launched in 2021 and the corresponding UN Women Bangladesh Strategy Note (2022-2026), defining UN Women’s strategic engagement in Bangladesh, has also been finalized. The country strategy focuses on strengthening the national structures and mechanisms for gender mainstreaming in policies, plans and budgets; supporting efforts to prevent and eliminate violence against women; promoting women’s access to decent and safe work; promoting policies and government investment in women’s empowerment and resilience building in the context of climate change, humanitarian crisis as well as other threats to peace and security. UN Women works with a range of stakeholders in Bangladesh including the government, civil society and women’s organisations, youth, UN agencies and donors, to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This position is based within Communications Unit for the UN Women Bangladesh Office and will report to Communication Analyst.  Communications Unit is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of the Office communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, donors, media, youth and the public.  The unit is in charge of liaising with Regional Office and Head Quarter for driving brand communication through campaigns and events. The unit also maintains media relations and provides in depth support to programs for their specific communications and advocacy plan implementation.

  • Manage social media channels, monitor trends and develop monthly reports to monitor engagement;
  • Develop engaging advocacy and communications materials for on and offline youth-centric communications and media campaign;
  • Support Communications Analyst on corporate communications areas of work, through producing content for external audience.

1) Supporting BCO to develop communication materials and deliver it’s daily communication efforts

  •  Under the guidance of the Communication Analyst, the intern will support BCO to develop communication materials such as presentations, templates, stories, social media posts, PRs etc;
  • Will assist the Communications Analyst in communications activities such as events, launches, campaigns, drafting of BCO quarterly and annual report.

2) Monitoring of social media channels and development of monthly social media reports

  • Under the guidance of the Communications Analyst, the intern will support BCO’s social media channels through creating daily content, managing content calendar, producing monthly report on reach, engagement and performance of social media campaigns and posts and making key recommendations to attract the youth group in particular;
  • Monitoring all social media channels and engaging audience as necessary.

3) Development and scheduling of high-quality communication materials:

  • Supporting Communications Analyst in the BCO to identify and develop key external communication materials, including thematic briefs, statements, brochures, posters, videos, photography, infographics, Talking Points etc;
  • Scheduling content on Hootsuite or other channels as needed.

Functional Competencies: 

  • Prefer 6 months of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, advocacy, or related field preferably in development sector or/and advertising agencies;
  • Background in design using Adobe Suite and online programmes such as Canva;
  • Experience and knowledge of the use of social media; 
  • Skilled in photography; 
  • Excellent writing skills both Bangla and English (copy editing experience will be considered as a plus point). 

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  •  University studies in one of the following disciplines: Mass Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, Languages or other relevant subjects is required;
  • Meet one of the following: 
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); 
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); 
  3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or 
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in both English and Bangla are required; 
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration: 

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women Bangladesh to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
