Historique

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women has, since the start of the resurgence of the global racial justice movement in 2020, placed strategic emphasis on addressing racial justice at the intersection of gender equality through diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. UN Women further recognizes that confronting and dismantling systemic racism in support of women and girls will require expanding its anti-racism lens and actions to its external, programmatic work. The Strategic Plan has, both at its center and as a cross cutting dimension, a focus on addressing inequalities and ensuring that no one is left behind. Outcome 3 focused on social norms will be an important aspect of the racial justice work, which will draw on the creative arts as a critical tool for changing the negative social norms and stereotypes which are key drivers of structural racism.  This work is anchored on the broader human rights framework and in particular on CEDAW, CERD as well as the International Decade for People of African Descent. In these contexts, UN Women has established the position of Racial Justice Specialist.  Going beyond the internal focus of creating an anti-racist workplace, the Specialist will play a catalytic and leading role toward an organizational and UN-wide intersectional approach to racial justice going forward, and in particular structural racism. The organization seeks a Racial Justice intern to support the work of the Racial Justice Specialist.
