UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. It supports UN Member States to strengthen global standards for gender equality and women’s empowerment, undertakes operational activities at the country and regional levels and promotes coordination across the UN system to enhance accountability and results. 

UN Women Nordic Office is located in UN City in Copenhagen. The office is responsible for strategic partnerships including resource mobilisation, advocacy and communication in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Key partners include governments, parliamentarians, the media, civil society, the private sector, and other UN agencies.

As an intern at the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, you will gain insight in global challenges and current gender equality efforts of the international community. The internship will provide excellent learning opportunities through participating in UN Women’s engagement with diverse stakeholders throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions, both internal and external to the UN, to advance gender equality worldwide. As part of a dynamic office, interns at UN Women are also part of the wider UN City community.

Devoirs et responsabilités

The internship will start on 30 January 2023 and end on 31 July 2023.

Under the supervision of the Director of the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, the main duties are:

  • Carry out national political surveillance on issues related to the work and mandate of UN Women and report on relevant developments in government policies in the respective countries;
  • Monitor national media in Nordic countries on issues related to the work and mandate of UN Women and report on relevant media coverage;
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for UN Women’s cooperation with the private sector
  • Translate and distribute corporate updates, statements and press-releases through national media outlets and write executive summaries on relevant documents and reports;
  • Support in the preparation and coordination of high-level visits of UN Women officials to the region, including drafting of briefing notes and talking points for UN Women officials;
  • Support communication efforts and organize outreach activities with private sector and foundations, and set up meetings and events to promote and improve UN Women´s private sector cooperation;
  • Participate in, and provide input to, joint advocacy and communication activities with UN sister organizations;
  • Host visits and present UN Women to students and other visitors;
  • Handle inquiries from students and the public;
  • Any other duties as required.

Learning objectives:

In addition to the above the intern will have the following learning objectives for the duration of the internship: Gain insight on strategies and approaches for establishing and maintaining partnerships with governments of member states, civil society and private sector entities, and UN Women’s role and mandate in this regard. Gain experience and understanding of the work of the UN system and UN Women.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: political science, development studies, gender studies, international relations or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Meet one of the following:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in a Nordic language are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
