Historique

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations System efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established through the UN General Assembly Resolution 50/166 in 1996 with UN Women as its Administrator on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund is a global multi-lateral grant-making mechanism supporting national efforts to prevent and end violence against women and girls, one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. The UN Trust Fund provides technical assistance and funding to advance the development of innovative models and strategic interventions in the area of ending violence against women and girls. To date, the UN Trust Fund has awarded USD 215 million to 646 initiatives in 140 countries and territories.

The UN Trust Fund is funded by voluntary contributions and is responsible for mobilizing resources through interaction with the Member States, private companies, innovative partnerships, UN Women National Committees, individual givers, and the general public. In order to steward effectively existing partnerships and bring onboard new partners, the UN Trust Fund engages in generating and disseminating communications materials about the achievements and successes of the funded projects.

Under the direct supervision of the Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager, the Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Specialist coordinates the implementation of the resource mobilization and advocacy strategies for the UN Trust Fund, including maintaining and stewarding relationships with the existing donors and partners as well as supporting the Manager cultivating new partnerships with a view of raising new funds for grantmaking. This will include maintaining the records and contributing to building institutional memory about donors and partners, with a specific focus on the Member States.
