Historique

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of gender equality at global, regional, and local levels. UN Women leads and coordinates UN system efforts on gender equality and gender mainstreaming.

Women’s participation in UN Peace Operations is critical to the achievement of lasting peace and security, as recognised in UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and successive resolutions.
