The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both societies at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating op-portunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including ex-perienced UN volunteers, throughout the world. UNV engages over 9,450 volunteer assignments annually. With an average age of 34 years and the requisite professional skills and qualifications of some with 5 to 10 years relevant ex-perience. The majority come from developing countries themselves. Roughly one half of UN Volunteers served in their own countries, with the other half carrying out international assign-ments. The financial equivalent of programme activities exceeds US$ 235 million annually.  

UNV is headquartered in Bonn, Germany and has approximately 120 staff positions – with a large presence in Bonn and some positions with different UN peacekeeping and political mis-sions, and in other Headquarters locations (e.g. New York and Tokyo) and Regional Offices (Nairobi, Dakar, Bangkok, Panama, Istanbul, and Amman).

UNV Information and Communications Technology Unit (ICTU), located in Bonn, Germany, is responsible for creating and maintaining multiple corporate applications.

Devoirs et responsabilités


Under the overall guidance of the ICTS Infrastructure Team Leader, the Intern will support the unit as follows:  

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the team by interviewing team members and business units about workflow procedures.
  • Support team to retire legacy systems by interviewing stakeholders using such systems.
  • Attend team meetings and compile action points.
  • Assist other assigned activities within the ICT Unit, as necessary.
  • Update the ICT Unit workplan deliveries.
  • Provide trainings and webinars
  • Run surveys on UNV staff and cost-recovery partners’ feedback.
  • Lead asset disposal exercise
  • Perform helpdesk tier one support as needed.

Qualifications et expériences requises



Applicants to the UNV internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in fields such as Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences or related disciplines;
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in these disciplines;
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above), and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as a part of this program.


  • Strong interest in development cooperation and in the work of the United Nations Volunteers programme.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. 
  • Knowledge of Visio and other design applications would be an asset.
  • Interest and experience in volunteering is a strong asset.
  • Experience in developing countries is desirable.


  • Excellent oral and written communication skulls in English language is required.
  • Knowledge of other official UN language is desirable.

  • UNDP Conditions of Service for interns apply for interns working at UNV Headquarters.
  • A person who is the child or sibling of a UNDP staff member is not eligible to apply for an internship at UNDP. An applicant who bears any other family relationship with a UNDP staff member may be engaged as an intern, if they are neither assigned to the same work unit of the staff member nor be placed under the direct or indirect supervision of the staff member.
  • Where an intern is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, will be paid by UNV. Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity (if applicable).
  • The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined based on the stipend rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNV but to complement an intern's studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNV accepts no responsibility for the intern's medical insurance or for costs arising from illness during the internship. Interns are required to provide proof of medical insurance coverage for the duty station in which they will intern.
  • Selected Interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/or graduation and self-certification of good health prior to starting the internship.
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns will accrue leave at the rate of 1.5 days per month. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited. Any unjustified absences during the internship period exceeding a total of nine days, will be deducted from the monthly stipend.
  • Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Short-listed candidates may be requested provide samples of their graphic design and video work, and to take a short written test and/or interview.
