UNDP in partnership with the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) of the Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives and UN-Habitat is implementing the Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP) in Bangladesh with funding from the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and UNDP.

The project aims to improve the livelihoods and living conditions of three million urban poor and extremely poor people, especially women and girls, living in 30 towns and cities in Bangladesh. It will achieve this aim through providing support for participatory community upgrading through community contracting, supporting viable and sustainable livelihoods and social and economic development activities, addressing issues of security of tenure and the needs of the extreme poor, and working with others to create a more pro-poor urban policy environment. The project will support the development of town-wide poverty reduction and economic development strategies through partnerships with urban poor communities, civil society and local government.

The project outputs: 

  1. Urban poor communities* mobilised and supported to form representative, inclusive and well-managed groups.
  2. Poor urban communities* supported to create healthy and secure living environments.
  3. Urban poor and extremely poor people supported to acquire the resources, knowledge and skills needed to increase their incomes and assets.
  4. Development and implementation of pro-poor policies and practices supported in partnership with others.
  5. Effective project management systems established and operational.

 In each town a Town Manager will lead the Project Team comprising of staff from the local government and those directly recruited by the project by UNDP. The project will be managed by a Dhaka based Project Executive Group (Project Board) with the National Project Director, Project Manager and UNDP Programme Officer as members.

In each town a Town Project Board will be formed with City Mayor/Pourashava Chairperson and other members to approve work plan, monitor outputs.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Summary of Key Functions:

Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager and Operations Manager the Driver will work under the direct supervision of the Town Manager and Admin Expert to achieve the following results;

  • Drive project vehicle(s) within duty station (project town) and anywhere in Bangladesh on field missions as may be necessary
  • Collect and deliver mail and other documents from various destinations including UNDP and government offices, post offices, courier services etc.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport, rail station, ferry station and assist with formalities for prompt exit upon arrival or facilitate with departure procedures as may be necessary;
  • Take necessary precautions while driving for safety and security of the vehicle and passengers;
  • Assume responsibilities for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) including checking oil, water, battery, tires, brakes etc;
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs;
  • Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition;
  • Maintain log books;
  • Ensure that proper steps required by rules and regulations are taken in the event of involvement in accident.
  • Any other task for effective implementation of the project that may be assigned by the Output Support Team Manager or Town Manager in the assigned town.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Secondary Education. Valid Driver’s licence.

Experience:

  • 5 years’ work experience as a driver in a reputed national or international organisation; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Bangla and communicative English skills.
