The Fund for Gender Equality (FGE) is a $76 million, multi-donor initiative designed to advance innovative, high-impact programmes that focus on women’s economic and political empowerment at local and national levels, in line with national development plans and priorities. Launched in 2009 with an initial contribution from the Government of Spain, and subsequently joined by the governments of Norway, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Japan, the Fund for Gender Equality provides grants on a competitive basis to civil society and governmental partners in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, the Arab States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe and Central Asia (ECA). The Fund is unique in its focus on supporting partners to turn local and national laws and policies into tangible gains for women’s rights.

The FGE initiated its first cycle of grantmaking in 2009-2010, awarding $38.2 million to 40 inaugural programmes implemented by national organizations and government machineries. In the second grantmaking cycle 2011-2012, the Fund awarded $18 million to 56 programmes.  In total, FGE has funded 96 programmes, totaling $56 M awarded in 72 countries.

In March 2015 the Fund is launching its 3rd grant-making cycle to fund women-led CSO programmes in the areas of women’s economic and political empowerment.

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the FGE Programme and Grant-making Specialist, the intern will assist the FGE team throughout the various phases of the grant-making process and provide support as needed to other areas of work of the FGE such as communications, event management and monitoring efforts. A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Please note interns should expect to devote 15% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Grant-Making:

  • General support to the evaluation process of CSO grant project proposals for the Funds 3rd grantmaking cycle;
  • Support the coordination of the Technical Committee Members’ evaluation inputs and the collection of inputs from various Regional and Country offices;
  • Support the compilation of inputs from Country Offices at different stages of the evaluation process;
  • Support the development of a Semi-Finalist CSO Capacity Assessment roll out plan;
  • Support the development of a Technical Assistance roll out plan for Semi-Finalist CSO to develop full fledge proposals;
  • Compile large amounts of data, design effective sorting and data analysis tools (in Excel mostly) and support the information analysis by producing various compilation reports;
  • Participate in the preparation of training sessions and teleconferences to brief evaluators and UN Women colleagues on various aspects of the grant-making cycle and the evaluation requirements;
  • Contribute to re-designing the content of the online application system;
  • Support the final validation process of selected grantees with the production of various summary documents concerning selected proposals;
  • Support and coordinate other activities as required throughout the grantmaking cycle.

Communications:

  • Support the preparation of external and internal communications material (including relevant briefs, print materials, press releases, articles, success stories etc.);
  • Monitor and update web content related to the grant making cycle;
  • Coordinate translation processes for various materials.

  • Knowledge of international development and/ or women’s rights;
  • Able to communicate effectively with the ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Good in organizing and structuring various tasks and responsibilities;
  • Creative thinker, willing to try new ways of doing things; ability to think and work logically; attention to detail;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a  Master’s degree in social science, development studies or other relevant field;
  • Strong academic background in gender studies, international development or other related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience working with Sharepoint or other KM platforms;
  • Strong computer skills (including Excel).

Language:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English with strong writing skills in English;
  • Working knowledge of either French or Spanish is required (knowledge of both would be preferred).
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

Conditions:

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP and the selected candidate will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.;
