UN Women Background

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Project Background

The Communications Section supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority in this context.

This entails showcasing its leadership on gender equality through streamlined, dynamic video and multimedia products, highlighting the organization’s results-oriented, impactful interventions on the ground.

Video and multimedia products are to support the three objectives of the Communications strategy:

  • Drive and support advocacy efforts to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality;
  • Increase UN Women’s visibility to support its resource mobilization goals;
  • Enhance public awareness on gender equality goals and UN Women’s role in achieving them.


Devoirs et responsabilités

Responsibilities indlude:

  • Editing, captioning and titling UN Women video content;
  • Assisting in the production of UN Women branded video content;
  • Selecting and labeling b-roll and photos for use in future productions;
  • Assisting in uploading videos and maintaining UN Women’s global YouTube channel;
  • Assisting in disseminating and promoting video content to media partners and social media channels;
  • Assisting in archiving digital assets on the Digital Asset Management System;
  • Assisting in producing audio-visual components for communications campaigns;
  • Assisting the Communications team as requested during the 2015 UN General Assembly, the High-Level Review of Resolution 1325 in October, and the 16 Days to End Violence Against Women in November/December 2015.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • The intern must have studied in media studies, communications, journalism, public policy, international development or other related field;
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Experience:

  • Proven experience with video editing on non-linear editing paltforms including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Final Cut Pro X;
  • Exprience with disseminating and promoting video content through social media channels;
  • Experience working in an international environment;
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to think and work logically and precisely with attention to detail;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required; Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage.

UN Women Internship Policy:

  • UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan.
