Under the direct supervision of the Knowledge Communications Analyst, the iComms Intern will be responsible for assisting with the organization of media events, social media and maintaining of the UNDP PO in Fiji Library.

The Integrated Communications and Knowledge Management Team is under the Integrated Results Management Unit (IRMU) at the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji. The team, hereinafter referred to as iComms, provides integrated communications and knowledge management services vis-à-vis UNDP’s main external and internal audiences in Pacific Island countries. By way of designing and implementing communications and knowledge management plans linked to programme priorities in the Pacific, iComms helps position UNDP as a thought leader in ways that boost demand for various service lines and increase overall business opportunities.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Assist in the organizing and implementation of media events and initiatives, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Assist in the organization of publicity, advocacy, knowledge-sharing events, promotional opportunities and media events. Provision of logistics support to the events;
  • Support to increased awareness of UNDP’s mandate and goals through dissemination of information, organization of public events.

Ensures maintenance of UNDP’s social media networks, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Updated and high quality social media posts in line with corporate standards;
  • Preparation of the content for social media ensuring consistency of the materials.
  • Maintenance of photo library.

Support the maintaining of the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji Library

  • Record and catalogue all publications into alphabetical order on an excel sheet;
  • Label all physical master copies and organize in alphabetical order;
  • Search and save all electronic copies of publication not found in the UNDP PO in Fiji website.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

Qualified candidates must be:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree programme as a full-time student in Journalism, Development Studies or another specialization relevant to Communications and Media;
  • Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible;
  • Available to work for a period of 3-6months. Applicants available for a minimum of three months and up to six months are preferred;
  • Available to work for at least 2 days a week and 4 hours a day for local applicants;
  • Applicants must state their availability. Some flexibility will be allowed in the starting date and days worked per work.

Experience:

  • Proven ability to research and write development, or other related topics for a wide range of audiences;
  • Experience in recording;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages;
  • Other work experience in non-related fields that demonstrate skills in client service and networking will be an advantage.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Timeframes and Resources:

The intern will be expected to support the IRMU in implementing the project. He/she will be granted access to:

  • the UNDP internal workspace and archive of resources and research material;
  • the UNDP subscriptions of scholarly journals and databases;
  • the UNDP internal e-communications and internet facilities.

Financial Arrangements:

UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the intern or his/her nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students. The intern will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.

Further Career Opportunities: The purpose of internships is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern's studies. However, a number of interns, having completed their studies and met the necessary requirements, have gone on to further assignments with the UNDP or elsewhere in the United Nations system.

  • (The successful applicant will subsequently require health insurance coverage.) UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNDP. Successful applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance for the duty station for which they will work. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship which:
  • requires transportation to the Home Country or Country of Residence for further treatment; or
  • results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the Home Country, or Country of Residence.

The selection process will consist of interviews and a written test.

Candidates who are shortlisted for an interview must submit prior the interview the following documents:

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme (and graduation date);
  • Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance;
  • Copy of school transcript;
  • A brief statement setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with UNDP and what is expected from the experience;
  • Before being offered an internship position, the selected candidate will have to provide the following additional documents:
    • A Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician. If the intern is expected to travel outside the country of their residence, other than to Europe and North America, the physician must indicate whether he/she is fit to travel and has had the required inoculations for the country or countries to which the intern is to travel.
  • The successful candidate will be advised of his/her selection within 2 weeks of being interviewed.
