Launched by the United Nations in July 2000, the UN Global Compact is both a policy platform and a practical framework for companies that are committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. The Global Compact Networks are clusters of Global Compact participants who come together to advance the initiative at regional or local level. Their role is to support companies in their efforts in implementing the Global Compact, while also creating opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action. The Global Compact Brazilian Committee (CBPG in Portuguese) was created in 2003. It is a voluntary group with the objective of promoting the Global Compact Principles in the management of enterprises operating in Brazil, as a means of strengthening corporate social responsibility in the country. Since January 2011, UNDP Brazil is the focal point of the Global Compact in Brazil and coordinates the support to the CBPG.

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Secretary and direct supervision of designated supervisor if applicable, the Programme Analyst provides programme support services ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work.

The Programme Analyst is responsible for management of Global Compact programme within the thematic/sectoral areas assigned. The Programme Analyst analyzes political, social and economic trends and leads formulation, management and evaluation of programme activities within his/her portfolio, provides policy advice services.

The Programme Analyst is responsible to provide support in the activities performed by the Secretariat related to events, training and workshops and is responsible for the coordination of Thematic Groups, being responsible for companies’ engagement, follow up and administrative support. The Programme Analyst is also a focal point with Global Compact Headquarters team establishing action plans with follow up activities.

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Implementation of programme strategies

  • Coordination of the Environment Thematic Working Groups and local implementation of UNGC Global Platforms.

  • Creation of strategic partnerships with different actors and UN agencies

  • Facilitation of knowledge building and management

Supports formulation of programme strategies focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Collection, analysis and presentation of information for identification of areas for support and programme formulation/ implementation
  • Support programme execution, while also helping to ensure coordination of activities of the working groups
  • Monitor programmed initiatives, time schedules, targets and budgets, helping to ensure efficient delivery
  • Follow up the implementation of the Strategic Plan

Coordination of the Thematic Working Groups and local implementation of UNGC Global Platforms:

  • Promotion of engagement of signatories on the working groups and global issue platforms
  • Management of Thematic Groups: organization of calendars and meetings of the Working Groups, training workshops and events
  • Draft meeting minutes and meeting agendas of the Working Groups meetings and related reports in consultation with the Executive Secretary
  • Follow up activities and commitments derived from Working Groups deliberations
  • Coordination of the local implementation of the UNGC issue platforms, being the focal point with UNGC Headquarters, implementing action plans and follow up activities
  • Facilitate new memberships;
  • Develop content related to working group thematic area;
  • Management of consultants in the development of studies or other products related to the work of the working group;
  • Training and capacity building of new signatories of the Global Compact
  • Dissemination of Global Compact Principles and Global Compact Issue Platforms
  • Support the UNGC missions to Brazil

Ensures creation of strategic partnerships with different actors and UN agencies

  • Development of partnerships with the UN Agencies, government institutions, bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors, private sector, civil society in the specific thematic areas based on strategic goals of Global Compact Network Brazil

  • Identification of opportunities for initiation of new projects, active contribution to the overall office effort in resource mobilization

  • Coordinate with UNDP contacts and relationships with other UN agencies and with the Global Compact Office when required

  • Support the Executive Secretary in liaising with the Brazilian network participants, UNDP and the United Nations’ teams, and articulate initiatives with public institutions and other organizations

Ensures provision of top quality advisory services and facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification of sources of information related to policy-driven issues.
  • Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learnt directly linked to programme country policy goals
  • Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing
  • Organization of meetings, events, workshops, trainings, webinars and publications of the Secretariat and of the working groups
  • Research and share papers, documents and reports on the GC principles that are of interest to the Brazilian Network
  • Disseminate best practices and lessons learned
  • Update contents of the website of the Global Compact – Brazil
  • Provide communication materials to share information on activities and opportunities for the Brazilian Network participants
  • Develop briefs and presentation related to the working group themes;
  • Review translation of GC materials for training workshops, website, and UNGC messages to Brazilian participants
  • Liaise with the UNGC on the status of GC Brazilian participants, training materials, surveys, and on relevant information to be shared with the Brazilian Network

The key results have an impact on the overall efficiency of Brazilian Committee of the Global Compact and on the success in implementation of its strategies. Accurate analysis, data entry and presentation of information contribute to proper implementation of the CBPG Strategic Planning 2017-2020.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Required university degree in Environment, Management, International Relations, Law, Economics, or related areas., and post-graduation course in Environment, Management, International Relations, Law, Economics or related areas.
  • Masters degree will be considered as an advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant programme experience in environment issues, such as water, climate change or agriculture is required at the national or international level or 5 years of progressive experience in corporate sustainability.
  • Proven knowledge of sustainability.
  • Proven working experience in the public or private sectors on sustainability and social corporate responsibility.
  • Proven working experience with advocacy campaigns, partnerships and resource mobilization strategies, as well as on facilitating knowledge building and knowledge sharing.
  • Previous working experience with the United Nations or any of its initiatives is an asset.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc). 
  • Work and experience in Program area of any of the agencies of the UN system and Global Compact Network will be a differential.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Portuguese.
  • Working knowledge in English (speaking, reading and writing).
  • Working knowledge of Spanish.
  • Fluency in English is an asset.
  • Fluency in Spanish is an asset.
