The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has over 50 years of experience leading the UN’s development work, providing knowledge, practical expertise, and a legacy of trust.

People are at the heart of what we do and how we work together in about 170 countries. The Outreach Team in the Office of Human Resources is looking for a creative and analytical intern to support our communications, outreach and social media initiatives. This internship is a great opportunity to develop your communication and outreach skills while learning more about UNDP and the UN System.

Devoirs et responsabilités

  • Contribute to the implementation and development of UNDP’s employer brand, online presence and outreach activities;
  • Review and analyze current employer branding practices at UNDP and best practices in the public and private sector;
  • Research and prepare an employee alumni concept for UNDP;
  • Create and update outreach presentations and material, and establish a content library;
  • Create content for OHR’s web pages and social media channels on Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Support the development/implementation of the outreach and communication plan for 2018;
  • Conduct research on universities, professional associations and other institutions in member states with a view to sourcing talent;
  • Support the preparation of briefs and reports, including statistical analysis;
  • Assist in organizing events for outreach activities;
  • Other tasks as assigned to support the work of the Outreach and Social Media team.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Required Skills and Experience:

Interns are selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required:


  • Enrolled in or within one year after graduation from a Master’s programme or in the final year of a Bacherlor’s programme in the areas of communication, journalism, marketing, human resources, business management, international development, public administration, or a related field;
  • If pursuing their studies in a country where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, the candidate must have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution toward the completion of a degree. (If this applies to you, please explain further in your letter of application);


  • Academic knowledge of and experience in marketing, brand management, communication, social media and related fields;
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team in a multicultural environment is desirable;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Experience creating content/presentations, writing and editing, graphic design, conducting research and data analysis is desirable.
  • Graphic design skills are desirable;
  • Computer proficiency: MS Office, social media, Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (or similar), Google Analytics (or similar);


  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Conditions of Internship:

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make her or his arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, insurance, etc.

Candidates who are shortlisted for an interview will be asked to submit the following documents prior to the interview:

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrolment in a graduate-level (or equivalent) degree programme;
  • Copy of school transcript;
  • Letter of endorsement from a faculty member who has worked with the student in the recent past and who is knowledgeable on the student’s performance;
  • Copy and proof of medical insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out (i.e. New York, USA).
