1. Background

Based in Istanbul, the UNDP Europe and CIS communication team takes the lead on UNDP’s outreach and advocacy efforts across the region. The work of the team now consists in making sure UNDP’s mandate, but also the issues at the core of the organization’s strategic plan, are communicated in a highly impactful manner. In order to achieve that, the team has been trying to produce content that is visual, modern and in tune with techniques that are being used by the private sector. These would be used for campaigning, production and dissemination of videos and other digital content, and social media.

2. Description of Responsibilities

The communications team is now looking to receive hands-on training and mentorship on digital content marketing and dissemination. In the above context, the trainer(s) will:

  • Create a training programme tailored to the needs of the communications team and others as appropriate
  • Share latest trends around digital communications
  • Provide periodic mentoring, guidance and/or feedback to communications team about their digital strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as needed.


Expected outputs/Deliverables

1. Prepare and submit training plan – 1 day;

2. 1 day hands-on training on digital content marketing and dissemination;

  • Wherever relevant, accompanying tools/handouts designed and produced for the event
  • Use examples of specific case studies that have been successful in the past;
  • Share latest trends related to different social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram;
  • Utilize at least one group activity that engages the team into getting hands-on experience throughout the training.

3. 1,5 days (12 hours in total until the end of the year based on 1 working day is equal to 8 hours) of mentoring is expected until the end of the year (31 December 2018), to be scheduled on ad-hoc basis by the UNDP IRH Communications Team when and as needed. Request for mentoring services will be sent by the supervisor in writing and mentoring services will be provided remotely (i.e. via skype).

The following topics are expected to be covered by the services provided by the trainer either during the training and/or mentoring throughout the year:

  • Changing marketing & communication trends
  • Presentation of new generation advertising and communication techniques: Which marketing strategies of for-profit companies can non-profits benefit from?
  • Emerging platforms (Instagram Stories, new Facebook features, messaging platforms): How can they be used for marketing UNDP’s work and the Sustainable Development Goals? A hands-on look at the latest features
  • Emerging storytelling techniques
  • Marketing analytics: a review of the best tools
  • KPIs: Is the team on the right track? Do the goals require further refining? How can the team improve their numbers?

Duration:

The contractor will have a two-week period to prepare for the training (1 day). The duration of the training will take approximately 1 day. The mentoring will be ad-hoc basis until the end of the year/contract duration and is expected to take 3 days (24 hours) maximum in total. The team will have five members maximum in the training and on-line/remote mentoring meetings.

Payment Schedule:

  • 1st installment: (60%) upon completion of training on digital content marketing and dissemination
  • 2nd installment: (40%) upon completion of report on mentoring, guidance and/or feedback to communications team about digital strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Qualifications et expériences requises

4. Qualifications

Education:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree. Specialization in Media Studies, Communications an asset.

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience in marketing, digital communications, content strategy.
  • Excellent presentation and training capabilities, ability to articulate vision and synthesize trends;
  • Proof of hands on work with a diversity of clients
  • Contractor must be a individual/s with prior experience with similar projects;
  • Proven record of success in marketing content across a wide diversity of platforms.

Language skills:

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.

 

5. Evaluation of Applicants:

Individual consultants will be evaluated based on a cumulative analysis taking into consideration the combination of the applicants’ qualifications and financial proposal. 

The award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

  • responsive, and 
  • having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.

Only the highest ranked candidates who would be found qualified for the job will be considered for the Financial Evaluation.

 

Technical Criteria: 70% of total evaluation – max. 70 points:

  • At least Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a specialization in Communication & Media Studies: max 10
  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing, digital communications, content strategy: max 20
  • Prior experience conducting similar trainings: max 20
  • Proven record of success in marketing content across a wide diversity of platforms: max 10 points
  • Language skills: max 10 points.

Financial Criteria - 30% of total evaluation – max. 30 points.

Please note that the financial proposal is all-inclusive and shall take into account various expenses incurred by the consultant/contractor during the contract period (e.g. travel, living allowances for 1 day in Istanbul, Turkey, health insurance, vaccination and any other relevant expenses related to the performance of services). All envisaged travel costs must be included in the financial proposal.

The payment will be upon confirmation of UNDP on delivering on the full contract obligations and in a satisfactory manner in line with completed deliverables.

Individual Consultants are responsible for ensuring they have vaccinations/inoculations when travelling to certain countries, as designated by the UN Medical Director. Consultants are also required to comply with the UN security directives set forth under dss.un.org
