UNDP Somalia Country Office (CO) operates a unique business model. The Head of office is based in Mogadishu; support office is based in Nairobi, Kenya and two area offices in Hargeisa and Garowe. UNDP Somalia Country Office has a tremendously important role in supporting Somalia to achieve its aspirations of peace, inclusive governance, the foundation for economic growth, and gender equity.

The CO focuses on inclusive political processes, state formation, constitutional reform, justice, and economic foundations and youth employment. Each UNDP project has developed strategies to align to the Country’s strategy paper (Compact), providing robust support which will spur transformative change and lasting peace. The role of infrastructure projects and procurement of vital god and services are critical component of programme delivery.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the overall guidance of the procurement Specialist:

  • The Procurement intern will be responsible for providing support to the procurement team in terms of drafting Request For quotations, for final review and approval by the procurement specialist;
  • Participating in evaluation of solicitation process for one time purchasing and establishment of long term agreements;
  • Filling including reviewing documents of procurement process to ensure completeness of files based on an existing check list,
  • Printing out and cataloguing electronic bid submissions ensuring bids were submitted by deadline and archiving and assisting the PU team with additional processes as needed;
  • The Procurement intern works in close collaboration with all the PU staff, Programme and project teams in the CO.

Qualifications et expériences requises


  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters programme in procurement and contract management;
  • Candidates must, at the time of application, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated and be within one-year of graduation of any of the above.


  • Fluency in English.


  • Internship assignments vary in length according to the availability and academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of UNDP. However, duration is from six weeks to six months.


Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members.

Interns may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts.

Interns may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

Third-party claims:

  • UNDP is not responsible for any claims by any parties where the loss of or damage to their property, death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omission of action by the interns during their internship.

Interns’ Expenses:

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
  • All costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by:
  • The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students;
  • The student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, etc.


UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNDP.

Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical insurance for the duty station for which they will work. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship which:

  • Requires transportation to the Home Country or Country of Residence for further treatment; or
  • Results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the Home Country, or Country of Residence.
