The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team (UNCT), which includes all the UN entities present in China. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UNCT and its various inter-agency working mechanisms (e.g. Theme Groups). The support includes strategic planning and positioning of the UNCT, preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), receiving high-level guests and hosting multi-agency events. The RCO also supports joint UN programming and operations management, policy guidance, joint advocacy and communications (e.g. the management of the UN China website and production of joint communications materials), in order to enhance UN coherence and improve overall program impact of the UN System in China.

The year of 2019 is a special year for the UN System in China. The RCO will start the first year of the implementation of the UN Reform under the leadership of the Secretary-General.

In view of this, the RCO is looking for a motivated intern with interest in communications to join the team on a full-time basis and contribute to its crucial mandate of enhancing the coherence of the UN System in China.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the overall guidance of the UNRC and the direct supervision of the Team Leader and in close collaboration with RCO colleagues, the intern will:

  • Support to UN communications activities related to the UN Communications Group.
  • Update and provide inputs for the UN China website and other communications materials (e.g. UN newsletter).
  • Provide translation and interpretation support as needed.
  • Assist in the organization of UN events, workshops, trainings and meetings.
  • Provide relevant support to other UN coordination mechanisms and UNCT activities, including meetings of the UNCT and UN Theme and sub-groups.
  • Help with the compilation and preparation of briefing and presentation materials.
  • Provide administrative support including for archiving and logistical arrangements.

Qualifications et expériences requises

  • Master’s degree in communications, international development studies, international relations, business, economics, management, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience with other UN agencies, international organisations and/or non-governmental organisations, especially in the area of communications and website management would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and its mandate would be considered an asset.
  • Fluency in both Mandarin and English.
